I'm thinking of picking these up but was after a review first. I'm interested in WotR and early Italian Wars and thought these might fit the bill. I'm a fan of Hail Caesar but I'm not sure these would do a good job for this period. Just having to develop lists and special rules for HC is putting me off. Having it all done for me is very tempting. |

Maximillian are a good set of rues very much in the DBA mode
.armies are made up of 24 -30 elements and they play well. We played a huge multiplayer game yesterday with about 150 elements a side and five players
.we got thorugh the game in about 4-5 hours. Good fun! |

I like them. Plan to do the French Wars of Religion with them and Mikes Models 15mm figures. Here are some links for you: TMP link TMP link link link |

Our initial thoughts were that they didn't look that convincing but, when we actually used them, they worked. A number of the mechanisms look as if they will really slow a game down but, once you get used to them after a game or two, they do not. There are aspects of the presentation that can be very confusing and I'd say join the Yahoo group for some answers to questions about interpretation that you are bound to have. They are not as clearly written as they might have been and a few parts could do with some explanation. We have ended up making quite extensive mods to suit us but the basic rules play well, at reasonable speed and do give a fairly good flavour of the period. |

They are a quite good modification of DBA for Pike & Shot. The games are slightly larger (think double sized games), but the infantry combat is speeded up (you basically fight 3 rounds in a single turn). They fit nicely under DBR condensed scale. DBR really requires a game of 30+ elements to hit the "sweet" spot. DBR is also slightly more complicated. So, Max fits well just under this. Worth a purchase! Joe Collins |

I don't think that the rules are intended to stretch very much past the end of the Italian wars, possibly into the French religious wars but certainly not into the 30YW so not really a 'Pike & Shot' ruleset. |
