I thought that was the case when the management change and KS were announced, but the blog post makes it seem like the staff tried their hand at managing things, but got frustrated by Tony's interference and lack of cooperation.

Insomniac22 Nov 2013 1:27 p.m. PST

Did anyone NOT see this coming?

Caesar22 Nov 2013 1:56 p.m. PST

686 people did not and donated $46,492.00 USD to Tony's creditors.

Insomniac22 Nov 2013 3:36 p.m. PST

I was amazed that anyone put any money into this likely farce… How many warnings does it take for some people to realise that it was likely to be a disaster?

Oh well… I bet kickstarter 4 is already in the pipeline ready for another bunch of suckers to throw away their money on.

It's getting cold here, maybe I can do a kickstarter for cash to throw on a fire? I think it would work… all I'd need to do is promise to send warmth through the internet ;)

Caesar14 Dec 2013 9:37 a.m. PST

Defiance has announced a new CEO, again. He's one of Tony's old partners that has been involved since WF.
It also seems that Tony has been spending KS money to buy thousands of likes for his Facebook page.

Manflesh15 Dec 2013 5:29 p.m. PST

It's quite sad that people keep giving them money. Their facebook page is almost painful to look at.

I fear they might be the ones to ruin the KS funding system for the hobby in general. There have been some high profile failures, and some board game failures so far. This will be like a slow motion train wreck, I hope not, but there isn't much encouraging news.

wminsing16 Dec 2013 3:09 p.m. PST

Thankfully it was 'only' 46 grand, so even if it goes all pear shaped it won't be a million dollar blow out. That's not to minimize how much it will suck for the backers, but it's not even as bad a debacle as that 'Cthulhu Monopoly' disaster from a few months ago.

Defiance continues to hurt people.

Yep. I am in the Torn Armor KS. $250 USD I will not see again and a bunch of really cool miniatures that will never be made.

PilGrim23 Jan 2014 2:59 a.m. PST

So the $46 USDK is now looking closer to £100.00 GBPK

Where do I get some of this action?

Fergal23 Jan 2014 6:09 a.m. PST

That's a really disappointing development, it's a shame they were drawn in.

Surely there was someone in the industry on their team who knew about those shysters!? The sculptor maybe?

PilGrim23 Jan 2014 7:19 a.m. PST

errr that should read $100 USDK

But what happened to the "Defiance in the news again" thread?, which while going over some of the same ground as this one, was more obviously new and important news.

wminsing23 Jan 2014 11:46 a.m. PST

It got taken off of several boards, but the thread is still there.

Cheers, so why was it pulled? the more people know about this outfit the better.

Munster23 Jan 2014 4:24 p.m. PST

<shrug> the other party has been involved in other KS that have gone nowhere according to those on DakkaDakka

Muzzlehead23 Jan 2014 9:22 p.m. PST

Munster do you have a link to the DakkaDakka thread?

I found the link: link

A "mirror" for that is here:

Oh, I don't think the Torn Armor folks are without blame; they got into business with DG in the first place, which shows a lack of research and judgement. But it's also fairly obvious here DG probably took the money and ran.

EDIT: though thinking about the timeline of events, Torn might have contracted Defiance before the DG Kickstarter/Proxie Models/Rustforge clusterBleeped text.

Caesar24 Jan 2014 11:44 a.m. PST

They probably did, but Tony and DG have had a terrible reputation for longer than that.

Lardie the Great24 Jan 2014 4:14 p.m. PST

I think I read elsewhere, DG were brought in before the ks and that's when Proxie/Rustforge problems came to light. Up till now I thought they were crap at business, but you have a pattern of dishonesty that beggers belief.

tnjrp25 Jan 2014 12:38 a.m. PST

A more considered response from DG now at their Fb:

TheRatGod25 Jan 2014 5:57 p.m. PST

Torn took all those backers money, did rookie mistakes(even though their ks page says how professional and trustworthy they are) and its all about defiance. Honestly Torn is the one who made the KS, they are responsible. Also why would you make it all public and not go to a lawyer and take it to court? Whole thing seems fishy and off.Torn seems like awhole new bunch of scammers, frauds and thieves to me.

wminsing25 Jan 2014 8:25 p.m. PST

Note that Defiance does not deny taking Torn's money and then providing nothing of substance in return. I don't doubt that the project couldn't be completed as described and Torn screwed that up royally, but then Defiance should have said so up front and walked away. Neither side looks very good here.

Caesar26 Jan 2014 7:37 a.m. PST

Torn may or may not have gotten in over their heads.
They have certainly shown lack of experience and poor judgement.

That in no way excuses Defiance for taking their money and running.

tnjrp27 Jan 2014 12:08 a.m. PST

Well, I suppose some folks see this as a case of stealing from thieves. Which they figure is basically A-OK I guess.

Anyway. A comment on TA from Antenociti (who I would opine are better at producing miniatures than DG):

And yet another open letter on the TA/DG dispute, this time from a bunch of tabletop gaming industry people to DG:
