Was looking again at the website and not sure how they scale up next to other lines or how they look painted. The individual figures are pretty expensive on the single figure side but the packs 8 figs for $16.00 USD are on par with Foundry. Primarily looking at the Punic figures.

Saw these here recently; they seem to paint very nicely!

I have a few units. They paint up quite good. I would not mix with other makers of figures, they are on the thinner side of 28mm and not the chunkier side! They are good figures IMHO! Mike Adams

I have everything from Warrior to Renagade I am pretty sure they would fit in there somewhere! I just have to decide what to get first to see how they turn out. I think I have seen several post on the elephants but do not recall any compairisons.

I have not painted any yet but having seen so many lovely pics of Relic figures I have been inspired to place a sample order myself – some Illyrians and Selucid cataphracts. They arrived the other day and I was both delighted and slightly disappointed.
Delighted because they are beautifully sculpted, well proportioned figures with lovely detail and excellent variety.
Disappointed because they advertise themselves as "true 28mm" and they are not. One figure measured 35mm head to toe (excluding base) and all the others were well over 32mm. This is a problem for me as my figures are on the smaller end of the scale and I was hoping they would be true 28 mm. Their horse are very large indeed (about the size of Crusader) and tower over all of mine. Fortunately I ordered cataphracts so a huge horse here is less of a problem than if I had ordered some light cavalry.
That said the figures have none of the cartoonish over-proportioned features of many large 28's so by mounting them on thinner bases (or cutting their bases off) I can still fit them in. Those of you with larger figures will have less of a problem and their excellent proportions make them very nice figures indeed.

Sorry Simon, because of the variety of proportions available on the market, 28mm is measured to the eyes. I leave the proportions to what you see in the pics.

On website the minis are labeled true 28 or 29mm heroic.

Im thinking of creating another section just for our larger 29mm heroic stuff.

I have some of their celts. Excellent figs and the chariots are top notch. They fit in well with my Foundry Perry minis.

I painted quite a few Relic figures for a commission.

Yes Mike that would be a good idea.
Also some of your figures labeled as true 28mm are much larger than others – the Ligurian chieftain, for example was 35mm and yet he is still labelled as true 28mm. He towered over the Illyrians (which were much closer to true 28mm if you take it to the eyes rather than the top of the head)

Thanks Simon! The minis for the last long while now are all sculpted on Ebob 28mm armetures.

Ps. The idea was to have Personalities stand out in games with warrior/heroic generals like WAB…

Relic Antiochus III:

The Relic line continues to improve in quality and quantity, from this offering. This figure is especially large-- 29mm I think the reasoning was as a commnad figure heroic scale would be fun… it works in that light. However the model is larger than the Polemarch Ptolemy… but that is also based on other factors, such as posture and horse size. Generally, Relic is compatible with Foundry and Polemarch, and Victrix… they are a bit smaller than Aventine.

I am currently in the middle of a Punic War project and have been painting a lot of the Relic figures lately. The customer service is top notch, the sculpts are very dynamic and a joy to paint and the quality control is superb. If that sounds like a strong endorsement it is because I couldn't be happier with them honestly. I really like the proportions of the models – they are not in any way "cartoonish" if that makes sense.

I am using them alongside some Gripping Beast figures in the army and the sizes look fine together.

Some examples of what I have done with them so far:

I plan on placing another order soon. Good luck!

Wonderful! I particularly love the colour scheme on the Spanish

For me Relic are the one of top ranges out there. Elephants are stunning and detail on other figures speaks for itself. I think Jonathan's painting above shows well what I mean.

Lovely painting, Scomac, must try to copy your plaids…

I bought a sample pack last summer. They are slimmer than my Renegade Gauls, but about the same height. Nice figures.

Looking forward to getting my Relic thorakitai done. Nice figures and a good size.

James Mattes,

To address your question about how Relic figures compare to other manufacturers, they're generally a pretty good match with Gripping Beast figures size-wise, and I know GB also have a lot of subject matter from the Punic Wars, Might be a convenience for you if that's your subject matter.

I have a lot of Relic figures painted up on my blog here:

But I'm afraid no comparison shots. What people are saying is true though, the figures have excellent proportions and there are a lot of great poses.

Forgot to mention it here regarding the cavalry. Successor heavy cav have been given Ebob 14 hands horses. Western Mediteranean horses are 12 hands, a smaller breed that was believed to be common in those days.

There has been allot of debate regarding horse sizes and distribution throughout ancient Europe and east Asia. I made a decision to make breeds in the east a little larger, so gave them 14HH horses. At least to the quality cav.

Thoughts and comments appreciated.

Well I have painted my first Relic figure – a rather magnificent Carthaginian General with lion skin headdress. A real joy to paint and I cannot wait to get onto others.
I think I can honestly say they are amongst the best figures around.

That's lovely, Simon. I take you ordered him direct from Relic? I've been drooling over the new Iberian light horse, and it would be good to know how reliable the international post is…

smacdowall20 Feb 2013 2:23 a.m. PST

The international post is very reliable although it obviously takes longer than from the UK. I have placed two order direct so far and they took a bit over a week to arrive. Mike packs the figures very well so not trauma suffered in the long voyage.
Make sure you order is small batches to avoid having to pay duty. I am not sure what the official limit is, I think it may be around £50.00 GBP So far I have not had to pay.

Caliban20 Feb 2013 4:35 a.m. PST

Thanks, Simon, I need a good few of these so I might pass this time. It's good to know for the future, though.

smacdowall20 Feb 2013 4:38 a.m. PST

What I do is order in several batches

Great figures, I have a Cretan archer unit, a thorakitai unit and three celtic chariots, great stuff. My only comment is the shipping is a little high. I live in Canada so I was hoping postage would be a little cheaper. I

I have Relic celt chariots and fanatics in my warband-they mix well with OG and Foundry. Really like Relic, great company.

Mike from Relic, when is the Spainish going to be released? Mike
