Good evening! Do Games Workshop's Epic 40,000 vehicles scale well with, for example H&R or Adler 6mm figures? I'd like to know if they're compatible for giving an Imperial Guard regiment a 'rustic' WW2 feel. Thanks,

Do Games Workshop's Epic 40,000 vehicles scale well with, for example H&R or Adler 6mm figures? No. GW Epic tends to be bigger than H&R at any rate. |

Oh, well that shoots down my ideas! I was hoping to be able to use WW1/WW2 infantry figures and guns, and mix real-world vehicles with Epic tanks. I suppose the sculpting style of GW may be a little more 'exaggerated' or 'cartoony' perhaps? |

Actually you might well get away with it with Adler, which are on the large side – I'd suggest ordering a pack to see how you like them, but I'd be pretty happy mixing Adler and Epic. |

Actually I find GW 6mm to be quite small/slender compared to many 6mm sci-fi:
As such they may well scale well with the more conventional WWII 6mm which tends to be truer to 1/300th – 1/285th. Though there is the whole thing with many 6mm vehicles being 1/300th when the figures are in fact not

Thanks for the comparison picture Michael! That's helpful :) I'm not too fussed about compatibility between infantry figures, as I'll probably never ever use GW figures
the Imperial Guard are sooooo bland. I want action, I want flavour! So intended to use WW2 figures to represent lower-tech Guardsmen, with WW2 and other suitable real-world vehicles as local-pattern manufactured AFVs and support, and mix in a few Leman Russ models so you can tell it's 40k Fletch

Mixing vehicles will be more problematic; the GW models are decidedly big and chunky compared to historical 1/300. Adler infantry with GW vehicles should work well, but mixing 1/300 WWII vehicles with GW ones is more iffy, I suspect. |

Are you sure Dom? IIRC the GW vehicles are small compared to a few others. As such you would be better off with say GHQ WWII as they are quite small too. GHQ infantry should look ok next to a Leman Russ and Rhino. prolly

Actually, now that I've just looked at GW miniatures, screw that
£30.00 GBP for TEN 6mm tanks
wow, just wow. It's just not even worth it, I may as well just get entirely WW2 and modern miniatures and use them, and just steal GW fluff for free. |

Don't buy GW in that case then, try some of these fine chaps: TMP link
Plenty of IG style stuff to proxy. ;) |

Plenty of IG style stuff to proxy. Yup, can't argue there, some of those Plasmablast tanks look like they'd make fine not-Leman Russ tanks at a fraction of the cost. Jeez, and people complained about GHQ prices

GHQ is super reasonable compared to the Epic vehicles. |

GHQ is super reasonable compared to the Epic vehicles. Which is saying a lot. I imagine I might buy some GW Epic stuff off of eBay or at a con flea market, if I found a good deal, but at list price? not likely. It's just not THAT good. As for the infantry, if you're doing powered armor keep in mind that you can always apply a good bit of handwavium to the issue. The same is also true of vehicles, since you are free to ignore somebody who complains that since a Leman Russ is precisely 6.32m long, your mini is out of scale. Doug |

If you are buying Epic figures on eBay, be aware that the earlier Space Marines and Eldar were noticeably smaller than the current versions. If the Space Marines are cast in blue plastic or the Eldar in green, they are the older, smaller ones. |

Also for vehicles take a look at the Mech Warrior miniatures.
The smaller vehicles are great for Infantry APC's and the bigger ones make great Super Heavy vehicles. Plus they can be gotten for cheap. I like this one for my Orks.
This one for my Squats.
Want some major Artillery Support then get a few of these.
Troll & Toad is a good place to check out. I picked up around 72 vehicles for around $72 USD with shipping, and shipping was the biggest cost. Oh and they come already based or if you are like me you can remove them from their bases and use the bases for something else. |

I've been collecting Epic/6mm Sci-fi since '90. There are a lot of good 6mm SF Companies out there. I find Exodus Wars and DRM plus MicroWorld, CinC and Angel Barracks are some of the best. I really like GZG's 6mm SF Infantrymen and Old Crow's 6mm Hammer's Slammers. GHQ I find is a bit too small, save for the heavier AFVs like the MAUS and E-100
Also check the Tactical Command site, it's one of the best 6mm Sci-fi sites around and covers models, compatibility, rules, etc.
