Hi

I have just started to collect Swedish forces of "BY Fire and Sword" system.

I wonder if any on has any good advices or sources for the Uniforms of the Swedish army during this war.

I am especially keen to know:

LivGardet
Upplands regiment
Finnish cavalry

Rgds Patrik

I think the best source is:

"Dräkt och Uniform" by Erik Bellander

The supposed colour of dress for the units you are looking for according to Bellander

Guard: pale blue

Uppland:Red

Finnish cav: no info

While Bellander's tome is the classic work on the subject of Swedish uniforms he was really an expert on 18th Century & 19th Century uniforms with limited knowledge of earlier centuries. So the 17th Century parts are filled with gaps and errors, the later often because he made an uncritical use of paintings as sources.

The major source of information about uniforms is a list for the infantry from 1655 which Bellander only partly reproduced
It can be found in the link in the first post of this thread

The cavalry was not uniformed at this time, in theory they should all have been wearing buff coats ("kyller") made from elk or "buffel" hide but the expense of such coats meant that wool coats were worn by some men & units

Thank you for the help!

And Daniel S what a superb blogg, it made me happy and really made my day after spending some hours in the emergency after a bad cut in the hand. (During modelling of curse)
