I have recently purchased some 50-figure packs of 15mm infantry figures from Old Glory 15's and have been disturbed by the quality of casting and packaging.

Problems include broken bayonets and flagpoles (right out of the bag), figures broken off stands at the ankles, and even some figures recently that had deep holes around the midsection (presumably from insufficient metal poured into the mold).

Anyone else noticing similar problems lately? If so, had any luck getting figures replaced by them?

Never had a problem in the past – might be molds are getting too old.

I've had a couple of incomplete castings and a few with broken guns in 1500 plus figs. I figure a few are bound to get dinged in the bag once in awhile, but probably not multiple figs in a single bag. I'm guessing that if you contact them, they will make things right with you.

Of the thousands of Old Glory 15mm figures I've painted you should plan to have one or two broken figures per bag, mostly bayonets or broken muskets but rarely broken off on the ankles… sometimes it depends on the pose, the more "vigorous" the greater the risk. I had one pack of Spanish Napoleonic foot come in with half the bayonets and many of the plumes came out of the bag pre-broken, so sometimes it's just a crap shoot.

don't hesitate to contact them, they will respond with replacements.

I have seen this many times. They will make it up to you as they are a straight company.

Whose 15mm infantry DON'T have a problem with bayonets?

Whose 15mm infantry DON'T have a problem with bayonets?

Essex…..I don't think I've ever had a problem.
But yes John is right, more often than not it's a weak point.

Bayonets cut from the thin plastic of margarine/butter lids and stuck on with a drop of superglue is my standard MO these days for broken muskets. It's a simple fix and very effective, they just flick back into place if bent….the plastic takes paint surprisingly well also.

Good tip!

Peter Pig … also have never had a problem.

When I receive miscasts or broken figures from 19th Century Miniatures and I ask for replacements, the broken figures are replaced without question.

Some of the Old Glory 15mm lines are more prone to breakage than others. I have had the same problem with Napoleonic Spanish line as Glengarry5; almost half of the bayonets arrived broken.

This raises the question: would it be preferable for companies to make their 15mm infantry without bayonets fixed? Did troops march around with them fixed anyway?

Had lots of thin, broken bayonets from them.Far more than one or two….

Scott MacPhee10 Nov 2012 3:31 p.m. PST

I've had some breakage from them on occasion, nothing major. They are always quick to replace any damaged figures.

I would actually prefer to have figures without bayonets fixed; especially for marching.

But figure makers think [and perhaps rightfully do] that is what the market expects.

Its like ACW horse holder figures; they mostly sell men on foot supposedly holding reins for 4 horse [one arm outstretched].

Ask any cavalryman if they would dismount from their own horse in order to try & control 4 horses while on foot. ABSURD.

BUT. That is what people expect. A person "HOLDING" four horses; not a "rider" doing same.

I think it's easier to cut them off then add them on so I'm good with manufacturers keeping them on.

It's an interesting point mcaras makes about horse holders … I have followed it up on a new thread TMP link and would be interested in people's insights
