Always adding to it, but I feel it's ready for a game!
Any comments or suggestions are always welcome ! :) (blog: link) |

That is very cool! I like the utility of it too. It would be great if there was a way to add some other terrain features on it to provide more cover. Nicely done! Thanks, John |
MrHarold | 02 Nov 2012 9:58 p.m. PST |
Thanks! Of course everything is moveable
.maybe some low cover would be good though, any suggestions? maybe craters? |
Wolfshanza | 02 Nov 2012 10:22 p.m. PST |
Really nice ! Small crater areas or some boulder size rubble would give some cover and divert vehicles somewhat ? Doesn't look like a spot anything would grow ? <chuckle> |

Looks good to me. Maybe a bit more smaller pieces here and there but not too much. Or course, are they ever truely finshed? |
Umpapa | 03 Nov 2012 2:13 a.m. PST |
Maybe some xeno/archeological sites on rubbles, because it somehow seems to me as a planet destroyed by global conflict. Ashes of burned world are covering entrances to bunkers with unknown treasures, like eggs of bioweapons. Very cool, one day will make something simillar. |

That's smashing. Excellent John T |

Outstanding looking work MrHarold. While the gray could have been a little too much, the red pools and blue crystal add some nice contrast that makes it all work very well. Just enough color that it pops out and keeps the board from looking monotone and boring. Makes me want to get back to terrain making. Jeff |

Mrharold, Truly inspiring work! Thanks for posting, Dan |
Eli Arndt | 03 Nov 2012 9:23 a.m. PST |
I love the overall bleak image of the landscape you've created. From the buildings to the rocks you really do make it look desolate and desperate. The splashes of color, keep it alive, without damaging the overall effect. -Eli |
AVAMANGO | 03 Nov 2012 11:19 a.m. PST |
The terrain looks very good and most defiantly ready for its maiden game, as for some more cover i would suggest some small groups of craters and possibly a couple of single larger ones. |
Eli Arndt | 03 Nov 2012 12:53 p.m. PST |
What about adding so steam or gas vents? Even if not in this scenario then for future operations on the same board. -Eli |
Fire Broadside | 03 Nov 2012 1:31 p.m. PST |
Spectacular in its simplicity! Really makes me motivated to finish my Mars table. The mountains/hills are especially impressive. Are they simply cut styrofoam? Some craters could work well as low terrain and I LOVE Umpapa's idea about xeno-archeology site! Consider it stolen
I even have my dig team ready --> link |
Barks1 | 03 Nov 2012 2:07 p.m. PST |
I'd go with craters- GW and Pegasus do some great large ones. |
MrHarold | 03 Nov 2012 6:05 p.m. PST |
Thanks for all the ideas guys! I love the idea of steam/gas vents and xeno artifacts. Craters would also be a good addition. The mountains are 1.5 inch insulation foam, I use a folded sandpaper sheet to shape it. I then cut into it to vary the elevation. |
MrHarold | 03 Nov 2012 6:21 p.m. PST |
@Fire Broadside I love that picture on mars! And the "Red" dust in the vehicle is also great! |

Hard to see that crystal in the background but I would suggest you add some smaller crystal clusters. I made these with cut down pencils.

I like it. I like that it is bleak, it is nice to see a world that looks well to be honest, horrible. Who would want to work/live there for long? The money, yeah no doubt the money helps, but so bleak and grey, no wonder fights break out and that green plants from Earth are almost worth their weight in unobtanium. It is good, sets a good tone I reckon. AAR? |
Eli Arndt | 04 Nov 2012 10:51 a.m. PST |
Looks like the sort of town you'd find Drak slaves at. -Eli |

AAR is inbound! A week or so out

How about some industrial stuff? Pipelines and such. Maybe with some gantries. Whenever I see 'desolate' next to 'volcanic' like some of your terrain the mining, either mineral or energy, always comes to mind. |
Fire Broadside | 04 Nov 2012 11:25 a.m. PST |
@MrHarold – Ah, I thought that might have been it. But they look better than a lot of other "foam mountains" I've seen. Will have to experiment with it a bit to get some Martian mesas going. :) And thanks for the kind words! Seeing your table made me realise that I actually DO have enough terrain to finish my Mars table (Zuzzy mat), so I'm getting to work! |

At least a boring rig or even a mine elevator or shaft opening? -Eli |
MrHarold | 04 Nov 2012 11:49 a.m. PST |
At least a boring rig or even a mine elevator or shaft opening?-Eli My friend is working on building up a bunch of drilling rigs
he has a plan, I think
i'm excited to see what he comes up with |
The Classy Gamer | 04 Nov 2012 1:35 p.m. PST |
Drilling rigs
you totally need one of those giant Krupp Excavators on your board. |
Cacique Caribe | 04 Nov 2012 3:52 p.m. PST |
If you have a mineshaft, then you are definitely going to need a separate board for a mine complex! TMP link TMP link And if the entrance leads to a xenoarchaelogical complex:

That's a really cool idea
and I do have the corridors already that could easily be an underground lab/bunker/mine
|

Awesome! Gives me all kinds of idea. I agree with the other posters about craters. These would def add to the look. |
Cacique Caribe | 04 Nov 2012 8:15 p.m. PST |
By the way, that plastic gate piece is from a board game: link Dan |
Kyn ell | 04 Nov 2012 8:32 p.m. PST |
Excellent stuff Mr Harold! I agree with the craters, as is the mining stuff, xenoarchaeology site, and most of the other stuff everyone else has said! To link in your tunnel complex would be outstanding. My hat is off to you sir!! DZT: The cut down pencil idea is inspired! I shall nick that one for my alien scenery! |
AVAMANGO | 04 Nov 2012 10:39 p.m. PST |
I really like that gate way and have the perfect plastic mountain side for one of them, if i can find one that is. |
