Following this link: TMP link It got me thinking that while Aircraft are not normally part of a 28mm WW II Land game they could be objectives or show up as a part of a larger game performing a strafing run. So do you prefer 1/48th scale kits especially if the model is part of an objective, or do you use 1/72 scale kits if the model is flying/attacking? |

Well, I decided not to read the entire linked thread, so forgive me if I repeat a lot of stuff. I use 1/72 for airborn historicals, except for some helicopters I've bought recently in 1/56 and 1/60. IMHO the 1/56 and 1/60 are just about perfect, but are pretty honkin' rare. |

If it is going to be on the ground, wreck or landed helo, I use 1/48. If on stand flying over the battle field, 1/72. |

Sometimes you can find some reasonably priced, quick-build, prepainted 1/48 scale planes at Hobby Lobby. |

My preference would be 1/72 |

1/48, you can also use them as terrain on airfields etc. Next question

I second using 1/72 if they are flying and not on the gorund |

I always sub-scale flying aircraft, so 1/72nd. Objectives etc 1/48th. |

OK pretty much what I thought. I have some future scenarios I am working on using Disposable Heroes, which does allow for aircraft in the rules. It does seem more logical to use the 1/48 on the ground and then 1/72 to represent flying aircraft. Agree with Chuckaroobob that if you can find 1/60 or 1/56 that would be perfect but I am not holding my breath. Of course, knowing TMP there is someone in this community that knows of a good source. wehrmacht the question is

You can find inexpensive 1/48 aircraft just about everywhere, if you don't mind building and painting them. I also have several bf109s, Mustangs and Spitfires that I found in the toy section as simple assembly models (prepainted) that I either repainted or just weathered, and which do fine. 1/48 on the ground and 1/72 flying makes sense, but you end up having to buy and paint twice as many planes, right? I have to admit that for modern combat we use 1/72 planes flying (because they are so big) but 1/48 on the ground – I have a 1/48 bizjet that has seen some action in WWIII games. Cheers w. |
