You can all blame this idea on Cacique Caribe

I've been toying with a new product. The idea is to add scifi details to any flat surface for cheap. Foam core, hardboard, or even lasercut MDF corridors.
Camera batteries were dead so sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.
This is the raw material applied to hardboard. I've already tested acrylic. It takes paint surprisingly well. It has enough of a raised detail to allow you to dry brush and weather it.
I'd show pics of my attempt to paint the first prototype but I've learned the hard way that if you have not eaten in 4 days due to illness your hands are not as steady as you'd think :)
I'll prime this one and try again.
The plan is to release several styles of walls and floors. You can mix and match them to get unique looks. I also plan to experiment with other elements. This material comes in some very nice florescent colors. I'll be experimenting with layering the designs to create glowing lights or details. The best part is you'll be able to paint it and then remove the top layer to revel the unpainted color.
We will probably release something along the lines of simple Scifi shapes for those DIY guys out there who want to add details to scratch build stuff.
This solves several problems with the current sets of MDF based terrain. Etching these details with a laser gets rather expensive. It is also inset into the material. The few times I have tried it have proved to be difficult to paint.
Still working on a cool name for it. I have a lot of R&D to do yet. Application of the details is kinda hard. It will require some time and a very sharp razor blade. Right now I'm working on how to make sure the application is square to the material.
I'm estimating that you could do the walls of a small facility (3-5 rooms) for around $5. USD $20 USD-$30 might get you an entire compound with floors and walls.
