In the series I never see the Skitters with weapons, or am I missing something do they just fight hand to hand? I know the Mechs they have use weapons but I never see the Skitters with any. |

It appears they're different species with at least one more as the command, as one scene showed a tall, thin alien on a building/ship top, IIRC. It looks like the skitters do the drudge labor and are just cannon fodder--not even as good as Halo's Covenant grunts. |

Skitters are humans that have been mutated with by control implants on their spines. They are also the command and control element for the not yet mutated humans with control implants which are telepathically linked to the skitter. They can direct the armed humans and the semi atonomus mechs and air robots..Id treat them as a platoon leader
and yes they just fight hand to hand and are not easy to kill

Some were human. They said Skitters were the only one they'd encountered to that point, so I'd have to guess it wasn't the first time the greys came in and exterminated a species and gene altered the survivors with those spinal attachments. The Skitters do seem to be unarmed but almost the entire time in the show they're carrying out actions against the rear echelon force. In the comic that prequeled the show some skitters were depicted wearing body armour, but were still unarmed
.so I'm personally curious to know if the Skitters aren't around just as controllers for the mechs. Not familiar with any "air robots" though? They didn't seem to use air drones at all, but they did have fighter bombers that were more small shuttle sized, probably piloted by the greys rather than Skitters if I had to guess. |

The flyers in Falling Skies are drones. No pilots. At least according to new season. They actually blow up a control tower in the first or second episode. |
