I've lost a thread Dan started on building towns and creating curved houses out of the sides of ships. I wanted to point him to link |

Ah, Mr Beasley, you beat me to the punch on this one. I was going to point these out to Dan. -Eli |

They're now available in both 15mm and 28mm, btw. Shawn. |
Eli Arndt | 19 Apr 2012 7:59 a.m. PST |
Really? That was fast, but then again it's just a matter of rescaling the programmed template, isn't it? that's cool. Are the large stackable habitat buildings going to get detail kits like the smaller buildings? The effect of those detail kits is really nice. -Eli |

That is soooo cooool!!! I hope I played a tiny role in inspiring the use of that concept for miniatures terrain application.

By the way, was one of these the thread you were looking for? TMP link TMP link Can |

@emu2000, I'll have to let Gamecraft answer about the detail kits – I assume so, but I could be wrong! S. |
Eli Arndt | 19 Apr 2012 8:22 a.m. PST |
Yeah, I was surprised to see they didn't have them. Maybe I missed that the existing details kits in some combination work for the stackable buildings. Dan, I cannot help but think that your vigilance on the subject was at least partially responsible. -Eli |

Dan, your thread was one of the things I pointed Allen at – you and I are definitely on the same page when it comes to what first generation colonies might look like! Thanks for all the lively and inspiring posts you share! Shawn. |

How in the world did I miss the Gamecraft kits?!?! Order away! |
Eli Arndt | 19 Apr 2012 8:49 a.m. PST |
They have only been out for a day or two. Don't be too hard on yourself. I check their site pretty regularly and they were JUST THERE one day. -Eli |

Eli, The stackable habitats will have detail kits too, I'm still working on them. They are a bit more tricky than the non stacking units. I got sidetracked for a day when I did the 28mm versions. It's not quite as simple as scaling up the drawings because the material thickness remains constant and everything else grows
so it just takes a little time to work it out and make sure (hopefully) there are no mistakes. I'll probably have the detail kits for the stackables online in another day or two. Thanks guys, Allen |
Eli Arndt | 19 Apr 2012 4:27 p.m. PST |
Allen, You are a machine. I had barely posted these to Dropship Horizon when I found out you had released the 28mm versions as well as the landing pads in 28mm and 15mm. Would you consider producing a version of the landing pads without the etched numbering and maybe just a venting or generic detail in its place? -Eli |

They are nice kits and all, but what really annoyed me was the pictures for the kits with "option" additions had the "option" kit installed and finished as the main picture for the product. It just the price doubling up-sale tactics annoy the crap out of me. |

Question: Can the refugee hut be put together so the roof is removable, or are all the pieces interlocked and cannot be separated? link Thanks, Dan |

You can see what the buildings look like without the detail kit by looking at the stacked habitats – they don't have them applied. The other buildings also show a photo of the detail kit and a photo of the buildings without the detail kit – the photos of the buildings without the kit are smaller, granted, but they were there in all the buildings I checked – didn't check 'em all, so they might not be in all of them, though. In a nut-shell, everything that is raised on the buildings with detail kits applied is laser etched into the basic building. The detail kits are definitely not a "price-doubling up-sales" option. Here's how they came to be: I sent Allen some sketches and links to look at. Allen sent me pictures of the proto-type models that had the detail laser etched in. Then this conversation occurred: Me: "Allen, it might be cool to have a panel you could glue on the outside of these buildings that would give people some raised detail to paint and add more texture. How much would that raise the price?" Allen: "That's a good idea, but it would raise the price a lot. How about we offer the detail panels as an optional item so people who want them can buy them and people who are happy with the laser etching don't have to pay extra for them?" Me: "Excellent idea! That should make everyone happy!" So, rather than a price-doubling up-sale, the detail panels offer the customer the choice of getting what he wants for the price he wants. Kind of nice of Allen, since I'm sure he could have sold boatloads of these with the detail packs alone at the higher price without the hassle of maintaining multiple product codes on each building to track. Best wishes, Shawn. |

Shawn it ia bout how the pictures are laid out on the site and the impression it gives. It gives the appearance of the up sale. I am sure the effect was not intentional, it is just how it appeared when the links loaded. I have nothing against the product other than the presentation. Edit: Re-reading what I wrote, and unfortunately it comes across with the infamous internet negativity filter, it really wasn't meant that way. Honest
. They are nice models, with a unfortunate page layout. My only other complaint is How big are they? In actual real world dimensions. |
Ambush Alley Games | 20 Apr 2012 10:26 a.m. PST |
They are about "yay big." ;) No worries, Infojunky. I just wanted to be clear we weren't trying to gouge anyone. I'll have to let Allen answer the size question, though – I haven't received any of these things yet myself! I'm waiting in line like everyone else! ;) Shawn. |

Question: Can the refugee hut be put together so the roof is removable, or are all the pieces interlocked with the roof and the roof cannot be lifted? I would love to know. Thanks, Dan |

CC, check out this blog for some in progress pics of the GCM buildings. link It looks like the roofs are a thin cardstock that you glue down to the curved spars. The spars themselves appear to slot into the walls themselves, so I don't think you could do what you want to do. |
arngrimson | 04 May 2012 11:16 a.m. PST |
Unless you can either use balsa or foamboard to create a curved peice to glue to the cardboard roof then slot it into the top of the building? |
