Some time ago I placed a pre-order with Amazon for Pike and Shotte. After three apologies for not being able to deliver it on the initial anticipated date and two further dates, Amazon have been good enough to tell me that the item is no longer available and have cancelled my order.

Look at the discussion points I raised with Amazon, and they have not challenged these, they also removed my review of 1 star which was due to the fact that the rules did not exist when they were offered for despatch within 9-11 days on 1st april, warlords gaming have confimred that it will be at least three weeks before Amazon have copies to sell.
I also undestand thet their marketing polcy has caused some lost orders and damaging effect on Henry Hydes wargames compendium whivh Amazon reported no longer available.
Surely in the UK or Europe amazon are in breach of certain trading standars. The pike and shotted is also a mock up the actual book cover

The pike and shotted is also a mock up the actual book cover

According to information on the other thread linked to above:

It wasn't the wrong cover art, it was an earlier version, clearly in the Warlord style, later changed. Where did they get it from?

According to a post on the Warlord Games forum made several months ago, they were asked to provide a P&S cover art "place holder" by one of their distributors. Amazon apparently then acquired the image via a third party, and put it up on their site. The Warlord folks didn't sound particularly happy about Amazon's actions.

I'll agree. Theyve certainly messed Hentry Hyde around with it offered for sale before last Christmas while it would appear that Henry has actually only finished his book relatively recently.

I have to say that I'm not so impatient for P&S that I can't wait a while to see if it does come up on Amazon at a better price.

I can confirm that I was utterly gobsmacked to see my book (The Wargaming Compendium) publicised on Amazon when I'd only just started to write it! The initial flush of "Oooh, look mum, I'm on Amazon!" quickly wore off and was followed by the hassle of having to respond to umpteen enquiries from understandably confused potential purchasers. It's on -- it's off -- it's on again -- it's off again has been the pattern, obviously dictated by some automated system somewhere that seems at no point to take into account where the author actually is with the project.

I can understand why it happens, and it's difficult to apportion blame, but it is really annoying and, I feel, unnecessary.

For my part, I'm using Twitter (@battlegames) and Facebook ( facebook.com/battlegames ) as well as my blog ( henrys-wargaming.co.uk ) to keep people informed of *actual* progress.

Whilst I'm here, I can tell you that the manuscript is finished and I'm now completing the design and layout of the book, which will take me until mid-May. Then a kind soul has volunteered to do the index, which will take a couple of weeks, so the likelihood is that the book will actually go on the presses early June.

Further updates will follow.

That's half the problem, of course Henry (and not in any way your fault I hasten to add grin)

Facebook, blog, twitter, forums, Amazon various websites (including 3rd party ones): way too many information streams to be sane!

The burden of the modern world :(

And just to clear up any misapprehension that may have been caused by the title of this thread, Pike & Shotte is still available for pre-order, from Warlord Games and their various distributors.

Cheers,
Scott

Yes. I should have put "?" at the end but I did indicate that was a quotation.

N.B. The two Osprey rule books due in the summer are on Amazon as well.
