Hi Guys Just had an e-mail from Amazon UK telling me that my pre-order for Pike and Shotte from Warlord has been cancelled, saying their suppliers reason is that it is no longer available. Anybody know what the hell is going on
. I wonder if it has got something to do with Amazon UKs pre-order price being only £19.00 GBP 50

It's an automated update probably based on the fact that Warlord Games have now announced pre-orders for Pike and Shotte. The rules wil be available at Salute on Saturday. Suggest you wait until then and then re-order. |

We have no agreement to sell to Amazon so why they put the pre-order up for sale (with the wrong cover art
) is anyone's guess. The Pike & Shotte rulebook is still being released at Salute on Saturday. We expect delivery Thursday morning and pre-orders to leave the same day. Order directly from Warlord and you'll get a free ensign miniature representing the fine King's Guard on the cover of the new rulebook. You can only get the miniature that way

Amazon do this regularly with virtually everyone – its part of a process of strongarming publishers to make them do a deal with Amazon rather than face the potential embarassment (and loss of sales) from having the product pulled from the Amazon lists. The more people who tell them to shove it the better. |

You would think some sort of legal action would be possible to stop them listing a book on preorder if you have no intention of dealing with them. Probably not worth the cost of the lawyers however. |

I don't see where Amazon would have got the cover artwork and the blurb without someone from Warlord providing it. Left arm not knowing what the right is doing somewhere inside Warlord HQ seems to me more plausible than the idea that Amazon opportunistically concoct pages about books they've not been officially advised about. |

Don't know the details about this particular case obviously but Amazon get publicity shots, distributor pre release info, and ISBN notifications and work from there. With all due respect to Warlord, I wouldn't have thought they were big enough to have right and left hands that far separated . Amazon on the other hand don't even know how many hands they have – try searching for a book by title then search on the isbn of the book – you get a bonus prize if there is any correlation between the two lists being offered for sale. |

As Paul pointed out they actually had the wrong cover art. They pulled a similar stunt with Henry Hyde's forthcoming book. Basically once they get hold of an ISBN code they list it. Generally speaking Henry's left & right hands both tend to be in the same room. |
Dave Wargamer | 18 Apr 2012 12:24 p.m. PST |
It wasn't the wrong cover art, it was an earlier version, clearly in the Warlord style, later changed. Where did they get it from? That level of information isn't generated by registration of an ISBN. Amazon are not pulling stunts, they're using information provided by publishers, who subsequently fail to deliver. |

It wasn't the wrong cover art, it was an earlier version, clearly in the Warlord style, later changed. Where did they get it from? According to a post on the Warlord Games forum made several months ago, they were asked to provide a P&S cover art "place holder" by one of their distributors. Amazon apparently then acquired the image via a third party, and put it up on their site. The Warlord folks didn't sound particularly happy about Amazon's actions. |

Dave the Wargamer You should have a listen to the hundreds of small independent booksellers who list on Amazon who get their listings changed at a whim (wrongly most of the time) and the publishers who suddenly find they're offering discounts they didn't agree to before you go round accusing people of failing to deliver. This isn't a parochial Wargames publishing issue. There are some pretty big companies getting pushed around out there. If you can't believe it, try googling the issue and read just a few of the thousands of hits you'll find all saying the same thing. |

Fair enough, I didn't realise Amazon could be so sneaky. I withdraw my comments and apologise. |

It's a real shame when a business gets so big it can do these sorts of things unchallenged. This thread, and the other one started by Jeremy, give a strong impression that WG are inept, or struggling, or both. In a small world like ours this does not help a small business at all! I am buying mine direct from Warlord anyway – too impatient to wait about! |

My strong impression is that the folks at Warlord Games are behaving honorably, while building a thriving and successful business. Another strong impression is that they, along with a number of other authors and small publishers, are being treated quite badly by Amazon. |

I have had nothing but good things happen in working with Warlord. Even when there is a problem, they just fix it. Amazon on the other hand has not been that great to deal with. So for me personaly if I need to beleive Amazon or Warlord, i know who i am going with. Owen |

As a periodic customer of both, I've not had any problems with either's response to little accidents. Neither of them could have helped me more. That said, how a company treats another company may well differ from their treatment of customers. Leigh |

Oh I dunno
.. Has John Stallard got any smaller recently? Paul was not exactly famous for his slimness, at least back in the day – not sure if he has been cutting down on those bacon butties since then, though. As for Amazon, it certainly sounds like a rather iffy thing to put available for pre-order something that you do not even have a distribution agreement for. |

IMHO this is purely a lack of communication between Warlord HQ, their publisher and Amazon
.Amazon's system is highly automated and is predicated on third parties giving them the information. I should know as I have had to understand when incorporating Amazons IT system(s) into other third parties when planning business integrations. ;) What I still can't get clarity on is – was there a pre-order price different from after publishing? And for pics of Mr Sawyer and his girth see: link you want image #125 |
