Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. My Search-fu is failing me tonight.

How did 15 panzer do their turret numbers/vehicle recognition in north Africa. I have seen reference to only using a single digit.

Was this for company, platoon or vehicle. How did they identify the other parts usually shown in the 3 digit used.

What colour were the letters painted.

Finally I am doing a force of PzIII and PzIV, would these be the same company or different? Any sources saying which companies in which regiments used which vehicles and when for 15 panzer.

Thanks very much.

Company number in solid red iirc.

I have 'Panzers in the Sand' about the 5th Regiment 21st Panzer. They used single digits late in the campaign, '43.

This should get you started. First is the standard organization for DAK armored division, specifically the armored regiment for October 42:

And here is information for that period specifically for 15th:

Thanks all.

So what numbers for which tank? Would the PzIII be companies 1-3 and the PzIV be company 4?

Would the PzIII be companies 1-3 and the PzIV be company 4

I believe that is correct, for the 1st battalion at least. I think 2nd battalion would be 5-7 for the PZIII and 8 for the PzIV.

Where would the recce panzer II fit in the organisation? Would they ave a company number? What would it be?
