QT Minis. Well I said I would get some pics up. There are around 175 Hoplites, 120 peltasts, 42 Javelinmen, 24 Archers, 40 Slingers, 18 Heavy Cavalry (or for earlier mounted Hoplites, 12 Light Cavalry, not all shown, I hope you like them.

Very colorful, are the shields hand painted?

Caliban27 Mar 2012 7:24 a.m. PST

Yeah, a proper army! I'm pretty sure one of our club regulars has the QT figs too, and they look great on the table. Thanks for posting!

Thomas Whitten27 Mar 2012 7:32 a.m. PST

Very handsome army. Good job.

Lord Raglan27 Mar 2012 7:49 a.m. PST

Bob,

are you painting your Roman shields by hand?

Raglan

flowerofbattle27 Mar 2012 8:01 a.m. PST

I'm glad to see that you have a massive amount of light troops! What kind of rules do you use that encourages that?

just visiting27 Mar 2012 8:03 a.m. PST

Those shields are hand-painted! Great job.

I want to illustrate each period-locale in my army lists appendices (for The Art of War amazon.com/dp/B007L9LX68) with representative miniatures. I do not do Greeks/Macedonians (the first appendix), therefore I do not have pictures of them anywhere in my rules. If you would allow, I would like to use one of your Hoplites pics to head that appendix: I would include a link to your blog, if you have one, or anywhere else you prefer. Is that okay with you? If yes or no, please respond here; or let me communicate via email….

Thank you all for the kind comments. Lord Raglan I'm great admirer of your painting blog and your day job. Thank you Thomaswhitten for the kind comment.

Thank you for the kind comments OldBob yes the shields are hand painted.

Flowerofbattle I have my own set which I was to publish way back in the late 1990's, however real life got in the way. Light troops have an equal importance within the rules. The rules are based around 4 forms or modes of combat / warfare, psiloi being one of them.

Thank you Paul for the kind comment. QT were a great figure manufacturer, shame about the demise under Amazon Minis (anyone remember them?).

Justvisiting please do and drop me an email at trajanic AT gmail DOT com.

Love the Spartans. Absolutely gorgeous shield work.

Marcus Maximus27 Mar 2012 11:35 p.m. PST

Lord Raglan how did you guess. I have an Old Glory Achaemenid Persian force awaiting my attempt at the Persians, but please don't expect anything like this TMP link

Dogged27 Mar 2012 11:38 p.m. PST

Gorgeous. A work of love undoubtedly, congratulations, it is a splendid army you have there.

Lord Raglan28 Mar 2012 2:20 a.m. PST

Marcus,

The Persians are a stunning army on the tabletop, but may take you a little longer to paint than the Greeks. You should see a couple of Seleucid pike units on my blog shortly, which have been painted with a Persian feel.

Good luck with it and remember to post some up-dates.

Raglan

Whatisitgood4atwork28 Mar 2012 11:56 p.m. PST

Lovely work. Well done.

Marcus Maximus29 Mar 2012 5:56 a.m. PST

Thank you all for the kind comments. I do have some enemies for the Greeks – OG Persians (180), but I do have a number of units requiring finishing first (All painted but require touching up, basing etc) namely, Spanish Scutarii (30), Celt-Iberian Scutarii (30), Celtic Warriors (90), Thracian Peltasts (34), Seleucid & Ptolemaic Thureophoros (62), Thessalian, Thracian, Greek and Macedonian Cavalry (50+), Carthaginian / Libyan Spearmen (92). However, I am currently in the throes of launching a business start-up. Once that is doen I should be able to free up some time to carry out some painting on the Persians and I will endeavour to put up some updates as well.

Emperorbaz29 Mar 2012 10:58 a.m. PST

Ah lovely. Have fond memories of that QT range, I did the drawings for Dave Hoyles catalogue and he paid me in figures! Which when you are trying to juggle the cost of a mortgage, 3 kids and a wargaming hobby "free figures" made quite a difference. Sold them all now, sadly, (the figures, nothe kids,). Sadly the mortgage is still around.

Marcus Maximus29 Mar 2012 11:14 a.m. PST

LOL. It's a shame the QT range is not around like our mortgages!
