Apologies if this has been shown on TMP before and with all due respect to the (unnamed) painter for Clash of Empires, is this one of the greatest pieces of painted eye-candy you have seen in a long, long time? It is so good.

Excellent.

Gosh that's very well done indeed.

knowing that to start with, that yellow is one of the most difficult color to paint…

Monstro24 Mar 2012 4:16 p.m. PST

Thats very nice indeed.

I wouldn't say yellow is that problematic, done in washes from a white base its as straightforward as any other tone, a bit tricky if you basecoat black I suppose.

I'm not fond of the hood/tiara colour though, I'm sure I read that this was almost always saffron coloured for Persian troops of which the Immortals were at the core. Possibly white or unbleached linen for others in the army.

That is an outstanding example of figure painting.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER24 Mar 2012 11:20 p.m. PST

Very nice paint job!

Caliban25 Mar 2012 2:29 a.m. PST

Lovely! Wish I had the time to paint an army like that. Mind you, I'd like to have that level of talent as well!

Huscarle25 Mar 2012 4:23 a.m. PST

Absolutely superb, and what talent?

It is indeed, thanks.

I wonder how long it will take to paint the other several hundred Persians?

Outstanding brush work, and great looking base.

All too often these are also the same guys who tell us mortals that you should be able to do a unit of these in, oh, 4 hours! :-)

Wonderful work. Highly enjoyable.

Ha, ha. And here I was thinking you were a regular 24/7 kind of guy. Has Samuel Smith's IPA got something to do with it!! :-) Too much or too little!!

The Persian Commander is 28mm scale!!

It was painted by Paul Cubbin (I did attribute it to him when posted on TMP). He's done one for the Age pf Ravens book release as well:

Who makes that figure?

Captain dEwell27 Mar 2012 11:14 a.m. PST

I have my mine, as a freebie when purchasing "The Rise and Fall of Persia: Cyrus to Alexander", a side-dish hotpot, from Clash of Empires. Both figure, and supplement looking very, very good.

Now, to paint or get a professional to paint? Yellow, eh!

As aye,

A bit…

The Persian is what I would ike to aspire too sublime paiting style and excellent craftsmanship but,….at the rate of 150 figures a day to get past the failing eyesight and the ever increasing pile of lead and plastic engulfing me as I type this……
