I'm going to paint up a unit of Italian WWII infantry for fighting in Europe. Looking at the FoW Avanti Savoia book, I see the Italians wore a green uniform. However, Andrew Mollo's The Armed Forces of World War II and Preben Kannik's Military Uniforms of the World in Color both show the Italians in gray. So, what is the deal here? Did the Italians wear gray, or green, or both at different times during the way or in different orders of dress? Grelber |

I'm afraid the answer is easy and staring you in the face. The Italian temperate uniform is grey-green Osprey's The Italian Army 1940 – 1945 (I) Europe 1940 – 43 is one easily available source |

But they do have a great camoulflage system as well, German used it on the eastern front and France. |

I second the Osprey book(S). They're all good, and I use them to pick out little details a lot. But to answer your question, grey-green. Battlefront's painting recommendations are pretty accurate, just very basic. There was a lot of variations b/c their supply setup was mediocre and they were a poor country. They paint up quite nicely and aren't bland at all if you put in the details to the uniforms that were often worn. |

Officers had lighter blue-grey jackets. Otherwise its all gre-green as said. The shelter halves that were rolled on the back of the pack were in camo. |
