I am REALLY getting tired at Polls that keep going over the same ground. About every 3 months, we are forced to vote on things like "Does TMP need a LIKE button?" It keeps getting defeated, and yet we keep having them. Oh, sure, the wording is slightly changed, but only marginally. Why do we have to keep dragging up this same dead horse? Hasn't it been beaten enough? BTW, if Dear Editor wishes to ignorw Polls and go ahead and institute new Boards, I am perfectly happy with that. IF he wants to ignore Polls that WON (and that I supported!), I am perfectly happy with that too. |

Naaa
If they want to do it, let 'em. If you don't like the poll, ignore it.

So you just want to increase the interval between repeats, then? |
John the OFM | 14 Mar 2012 7:35 a.m. PST |
Sure. Two years is better than 6 weeks! |
Lee Brilleaux | 14 Mar 2012 7:56 a.m. PST |
If you encourage people to suggest polls on anything and everything, you'll get repeats. The real answer is NOT to have polls on anything and everything. But TMP is, apparently, all about polls these days. I have no idea why. I suppose that could be a poll question. But so could "Is there a cat in the room with you?" Why, yes there is. Check 'A'. |

The more polls the merrier. |
Zyphyr | 14 Mar 2012 8:42 a.m. PST |
If we don't keep revisiting those issues, we might never get the correct results. |
Jovian1 | 14 Mar 2012 8:42 a.m. PST |
More polls means more poll prizes, which means more chances to win, which means more stuff or longer supporting memberships, which means more enjoyment on TMP for more members. Who would be for limiting the fun on TMP?!? |
Flashman14 | 14 Mar 2012 8:52 a.m. PST |
I like that cat poll .. good idea. |
darthfozzywig | 14 Mar 2012 9:04 a.m. PST |
No. Make every vote count until you get the results you want. |

Many moons ago I suggested a six month moratorium on new board polls (or was it discussions? it was so long ago I can't recall). The suggestion was accepted. Six months of bliss. So yes, a two year moratorium on polls which are repetitious would be jolly good, but I suspect unlikely to happen. Next thing you know, we'll be banning threads which repeat the same old question over and over, and where would the WW2 boards be then? |

If the cat belongs to Schroedinger, we can vote on whether he is alive or dead. Like a lot of TMP Polls, we would be voting on things we have absolutely no evidence for one way or the other! |

I know for me sometimes I forget to go through and check if a certain subject has been done within the past year or so and end up suggesting something too soon. Having said that though we must remember that a poll is posted at the discretion of the Editor. We also always have the option to ignore a poll. Its all good and in the scheme of things not something to get too flustered about. |
highlandcatfrog | 14 Mar 2012 9:44 a.m. PST |
Yes, yes, a thousand times YES! The current moratorium on the "I'm a self-absorbed git who needs constant positive reinforcement" button is only one year; I'm all in favor of extending it for 2 more years. |

John, polls seem to cause you no end of angst. "we are forced to vote". Really? Oh wait, let me capitalize it for extra drama. REALLY? Who is forcing you to vote on polls? Is this code that you need us to send a SWAT team over to rescue you? Should we queue up the black helicopters at midnight? You should consider starting up your own site so you can run it the way you see fit. You'll probably be far less stressed than all this poll fixation. |
John the OFM | 14 Mar 2012 10:09 a.m. PST |
If I want to vote down yet another idiot suggestion that we have a LIKE button, then, yes. I AM forced to vote. My opinons also seem to cause YOU no end of angst. Why do you even bother to comment on them? |

Bear in mind when polls take up to a year to get from the suggestion board to the polling station, you're going to end up with some duplication. |
Grand Duke Natokina | 14 Mar 2012 12:28 p.m. PST |
I agree with John on this. It is often way too repetitious. |

The OP may be approaching this in entirely the wrong way. Intelligent discourse is so 20th Century. We have advanced well beyond the need to rationalize an opinion. Views that differ from your own can be unsettling and difficult for the modern gamer. What if I'm wrong? What if they are talking about me behind my back? Are they the ones that keep smashing my mailbox? But fear not intrepid Internet pontificator, for just $39.99 USD (plus S&H) we can solve your problems. The answer? Mind control. Yes. Mind control. It has been a well kept secret since 1974, but through this special Internet offer, the power of the Illuminati can be yours. What is that you say? You don't have $39.99 USD? Well, the schematics are available online. You can build your own for just pennies. What is that you say? You don't like going to NTMP websites? Huh? Ohhhh
That would be sites other than this one. Must I do everything? OK. Here they are. Knock yourself out. Just use the new powers for good if you don't mind.
