"Should the word "SHOULD" be banned from all TMP Polls?" Topic

The word "should" irritates the bejabbers out of me, when used in the context of a TMP Poll.
It implies that the result of the Poll is binding and enforceable. Ummmm…. Suppose the Poll passes? Then what?
In almost every circumstance, I vote "it would be nice, but not necessary."

Now, if we have a Poll which asks "Should Perry release a Washigton Crossing the Delaware set, based on the Leutze painting?" I will of course vote an enthusiastic YES!, and so will all of my Sybil accounts as well.

I like "should". "Should" is pithy. "Would it be best if" or "perhaps we might consider"… not so much.

It has previously been agreed that on TMP there are no stupid posters, but that there are, sometimes, stupid questions.

How about we Ban the word banned from TMP?

Would the ban be retroactive? Then the should poll would be banned. Then it could be run again. Then should could be banned again retroactively. Over and over and over.

I think you miss'ed a few oppor'tunit'ies to add in "should", in place of would, could, in your proposal, GoGators…..

Yes we should have a poll "should the word should be banned from TMP polls". Furthermore participation should be mandatory and everyone who votes incorrectly should be spanked. link Then we should have a poll immediately after it which asks "Should we take the previous poll seriously?" At least I think we should.

Maybe it would be a good thing if we could ban the use of should but even if we could would we do it and shouldn't it be left up to the discretion of the individual pollster who could use should if he would want to but wouldn't have to should he decide not to do so.

I don't see how you could hand craft a poll without resorting to the S word.

Alternatively, we could substitute "must", for "should", just for grins.
