The word "should" irritates the bejabbers out of me, when used in the context of a TMP Poll.
It implies that the result of the Poll is binding and enforceable. Ummmm…. Suppose the Poll passes? Then what?
In almost every circumstance, I vote "it would be nice, but not necessary."

Now, if we have a Poll which asks "Should Perry release a Washigton Crossing the Delaware set, based on the Leutze painting?" I will of course vote an enthusiastic YES!, and so will all of my Sybil accounts as well.

No.

I like "should". "Should" is pithy. "Would it be best if" or "perhaps we might consider"… not so much.

Sergeant Paper05 Mar 2012 8:38 a.m. PST

It has previously been agreed that on TMP there are no stupid posters, but that there are, sometimes, stupid questions.

Yours is one of them.

As for it irritating the bejabbers, you should get that looked at, a topical cream ought to take care of the problem.

Should control freaks get 100,000 volts sent to their keyboard?

The world wants to know.

John the OFM05 Mar 2012 9:09 a.m. PST

A topical theme applied by a tropical Thelma?

As far as this Poll Suggestion goes, the control freaks are the ones who propose "SHOULD" Polls in the first place, and should be dealt with in the most….
Oh. Wait a minute…

Should polls about should be sent to Coventry? Should said pollsters be sent there too?

"Bleeped text the word "Bleeped text" be banned from all TMP Polls?"

Yes, including this one. wink

Main problem is the title field being short.

Maybe polls could have a title starting with 'WIBPTC' instead of 'should'

Absolutely not. It was one of Samuel Johnson's favourite words, and he was a fine man.

darthfozzywig05 Mar 2012 10:56 a.m. PST

LOL I was going to start this poll myself!

Mako1105 Mar 2012 11:01 a.m. PST

Sh'ouldn't'……….

Captain dEwell05 Mar 2012 11:08 a.m. PST

Or should that be Samuel (L) Jackson?

jdpintex05 Mar 2012 11:10 a.m. PST

Should the answer be NO. Yes, I think that should be the answer. I'm certain everyone should agree with me.

John the OFM05 Mar 2012 12:04 p.m. PST

LOL I was going to start this poll myself!

Should I count on your support?

Tgerritsen Supporting Member of TMP05 Mar 2012 12:27 p.m. PST

I believe it should be banned.

Oh, snap!

John, why should you be upset over this?
You should focus on something else.
Like maybe you should paint instead.
Or maybe should read?
Should you just ponder more poll ideas? I think you should.
But what you should do above all else is not get your danglies knotted up over a word.
Or shouldn't you?

Beowulf Fezian05 Mar 2012 12:43 p.m. PST

No.

Mako1105 Mar 2012 1:27 p.m. PST

"Should" should definitely be mandatory for all polls, just because it should…..

galvinm05 Mar 2012 5:54 p.m. PST

How about we Ban the word banned from TMP?

GoGators05 Mar 2012 7:37 p.m. PST

Would the ban be retroactive? Then the should poll would be banned. Then it could be run again. Then should could be banned again retroactively. Over and over and over.

Mako1105 Mar 2012 11:20 p.m. PST

I think you miss'ed a few oppor'tunit'ies to add in "should", in place of would, could, in your proposal, GoGators…..

flooglestreet06 Mar 2012 12:26 a.m. PST

Yes we should have a poll "should the word should be banned from TMP polls". Furthermore participation should be mandatory and everyone who votes incorrectly should be spanked. link Then we should have a poll immediately after it which asks "Should we take the previous poll seriously?" At least I think we should.

Mapleleaf06 Mar 2012 5:03 a.m. PST

Maybe it would be a good thing if we could ban the use of should but even if we could would we do it and shouldn't it be left up to the discretion of the individual pollster who could use should if he would want to but wouldn't have to should he decide not to do so.

Grand Duke Natokina06 Mar 2012 1:26 p.m. PST

I don't see how you could hand craft a poll without resorting to the S word.

Mako1106 Mar 2012 6:45 p.m. PST

Alternatively, we could substitute "must", for "should", just for grins.
