"Anglo-Sicilian army" Topic

I was reading through the excellent Soldiers and Uniforms of the Napoleonic Wars (by Hourtoulle, Girbal and Courcelle) and noticed a reference to the Anglo-Sicilian army. Googling this I found a couple of battles where they fought in wiki

There are various British and Spanish units in the army, and the KGL, but these caught my eye:

1. 1st and 2nd Italian regiments
2. Sicilian Estero Regiment (2 battalions)
3. Calabrian Free Corps (1 battalion)
4. Olivenca Regiment (2 squadrons)
5. Foreign Hussars (1 troop)

(plus the Swiss, and Chasseurs Britanniques of course)

I had forgotten about the Swiss and the Chasseurs Britanniques. Must get those painted up. But I hadn't been aware of the others. Some more information on these boys at the bottom of this link

and Olivenca a Portugese Cavalry regiment?

I've got the Troop of Foreign Hussars and the 1st Anglo Italian in my 28mm Peninsular collection. I used the info in the Osprey MAA 335 Émigré and Foreign Troops in British Service (2).

Ed, I have that Osprey. Thank you for drawing my attention to that.

They fought more battles. At the Ordal pass (1813) they stoped a French attack of 4 regiments, the 13th cuirassiers and the 4th Hussars. There is a great account of the battle at the Napoleonic series.

At Vilafranca (1813) a cavalry action involved the Brunswick hussars.
The siege of Tarragona was a fiasco. They tried to reconquer the town but the french spiked the siege artillery and the British withdraw.

It was like a UN army because it included british, italians, swiss, german, spanish and a battery of portuguese.

Does anyone know if the infantry ever carried any flags?

I believe some of the flags are shown in C.C.P. Lawson's History of the Uniforms of the British Army.

Great army for doing conversions: Crested helmets; British uniforms with no lace loops; etc.
