The link leading to an article about how disease affected Napoleon's Army in 1812 is very interesting. |

My standard comment on Napoleon's invasion of Russia is that he lost most of his troops on the way to Moscow. And yes logistics would seem to have been a major failing, even though the Grande Armee was relatively well equipped for those times. (my other comment on invasions of Russia is that Germany succeeded in World War One.) |

Just watched it on the computer. A very enjoyable programme but sadly it had very little in the first episode on the Napoleonic period. It also seems to concentrate almost completely the food/supply problems for the British Army. It would have been far more interesting learning how the French and Russian survived, food and supply wise, compared to the poor showing of the British, during the Crimean War. Looking forward to seeing Episodes 2 & 3. |

(my other comment on invasions of Russia is that Germany succeeded in World War One.) True, but organizing a Bolshevik Revoultion in 1812 might have been problematic, even for Fouche and Savary

Just watched the second episode. Very disappointing if you are a Napoleonic enthusiast. Just a small piece on Napoleon's invasion of Russia and in that he called Moscow the Russian capital. I pretty sure it was Petersburg not Moscow. As I say, disappointing if your main interest is Napoleonic, but just about okay if you like anything military. |
