We've played RFCM Patrols in the Sudan many times and liked them but now want to play bigger games. So we're looking for a set of rules for perhaps half a dozen to a dozen "regiments" a side. We tried Blackpowder and found them a bit generic.

Thanks

My own journey on this led to Piquet Hallowed Ground with 12 units per side. PITS is very good but I feel I have done it if you know what I mean.

I migrated from PitS to a home grown set based loosely on a set I found on the internet. They progressed from a "throw a 6 to hit per stand" approach to a fire points version that looks a lot like Fire an Fury!

Martian Empires.

Excellent. I would make the Guards fire same as line. Brigade cmmders I would make good , divison maybe bad.
See other TMP thread for our Sudan playtest.

High point We had devishes come screaming out of the wadi throught the scrub, crashing into the Anglo-Indian (Grahams) line. Pushed an Indian regiment back into a British Regiment. The stalwalt Brits stopped them both. very good game. Used toy fish as moral markers (ala Monty Python Long story).
Also, keep hits on the unit.

800 Fighting Englishmen is a great set based on the Sword and the Flame. Highly recommended!

2nd 800FE. Simple, fast paced. Artillery is rather deadly.

For the Sudan, try "Science vs. Pluck" – ideal for large scale games and certainly not generic. All players take the part of British commanders and the Mahdists are run by the umpire.

Don't be put off by some descriptions of the rules as 'role-playing': at their core is a very sound set of traditional rules, and some aspects, like the variable turn length, are easily adapted to suit your tastes.

Battles For Empires, use v2 amendments and play sheet. Makes for large games that are playable in 3hours and give a good flavour for the period.
