If you're going to advertise on this board as much as you do, why not be a pal and become at least a supporting member? By the way, just noticed -- is the emperor wearing roller skates? |

Wow! Great looking paint job. Thanks, John |

Porfirio, youre opening a can of worms. I might be able to find the thread if I searched, but this issue has been addressed before, and it isnt Gruntz' fault. Thats a killer blog. Thanks for the link! |

I like the "Han Solo" guy at the bottom. |
| Angel Barracks | 27 Jan 2012 2:37 p.m. PST |
One of these Kealios? TMP link No one has to pay to advertise their company on here. If you do pay you can get onto the Hobby News, if you don't pay then the you have to post on the sub boards such as here. If you don't pay, your posts are less high profile and can easily be missed. Gruntz has not broken any rules.
Anyway I thought Gruntz only sold rules and this is a model, something Gruntz does not sell at his store? I like the "Han Solo" guy at the bottom. I reckon he will shoot first! |

And since that image has at least four different companies stuff in it, using it as an actual ad might be tricky. The Imperator – Critical Mass Muzzle flash – Armorcast Smaller bot – DP9 sideways fuel tanks – look like GW barrels Not sure where "Han" is from. The not-Han I have is an ancient Martian Metals sculpt and a lot chunkier. |

"sideways fuel tanks – look like GW barrels" They are not. They're much nicer. Have those barrels next to me. The GW ones that is. |
| Farstar | 27 Jan 2012 4:47 p.m. PST |
Fair enough. Still way out of scale, though, even for 28mm. 55-gallon drums on end only come to waist high on a 6-foot tall person, and those look like you could hide a standing Space Marine behind one. The GW drums are similar in size. |
John Leahy | 27 Jan 2012 4:53 p.m. PST |
Perhaps they aren't 55 gallon drums? We are talking about scifi. Thanks, John |
| Farstar | 27 Jan 2012 5:22 p.m. PST |
TLDR: They look great unless you know something about storage tanks. They are shaped and ribbed like standard steel 55-gallon drums, and end bungs are less useful on a drum taller than the user. On a big tank, as these have been repurposed for 15mm, one of the bungs would have a dispenser attached and the two bungs would be arranged vertically instead of skew or horizontal. Modern storage tanks in that size range also have side supports so they don't roll away, and are usually a bit round-ended instead of flat (better pressure vessel that way). |
| LordNth | 27 Jan 2012 9:38 p.m. PST |
I believe the painter was just using what he had to make a great piece of terrain. It's hard to find 15mm fuel barrels. BTW the rock that the Mecha is standing on is tree bark. Also there is an Aliens APC in the picture too ;) |

We are talking about scifi Agreed. It seems whilst the barrels are not at all accurate the giant walking combat robot that towers over buildings is spot on how they actually are.

We are talking about scifi |

> Launching into screed mode< No just kidding
.. I can see what Farstar's point is here, a detail the blows the suspension of disbelief
. (Oh, he also regularly deals with drums on a regular basis through his work) It is a good paint job, Robin is just proud of his baby, as he should be. |

I can see what Farstar's point is here, a detail the blows the suspension of disbelief
. (Oh, he also regularly deals with drums on a regular basis through his work) Really? You can't imagine a future with oversized barrels but you can imagine a future with giant killer walkers that have tracks for feet and glass cockpits? I am not saying either is wrong or right but I am surprised that in a world of make believe a barrel is deemed unlikely and the aforementioned mech is deemed more likely. TLDR: They look great unless you know something about storage tanks The mech looks great unless you know something about physics and common sense. BUT.. It is just pretend. Anyway I have made my point I think and probably upset people so I will say no more.

Yes Damn it!!!! We all know what is implausible in Drum Technology, and super drums as portrayed here WAY outstrip the plausibility of mere Walking Tanks
Giggle
All I am saying is sometimes a misplaced detail can kill the rest of a composition. And in general said details are generally mundane and stupid, but the damage is done. (as a side note I once spent a week in a upper division drawing and composition class in the in-depth discusion of details beyond the mail subject and how they could detract from the focus) |

I'm still trying to figure out all the negativity here. What I see is a great picture of a really cool looking mini that's been well painted. I'm not sure I need to nit-pick it apart. I think it's a great idea to use 28mm barrels as 15mm storage tanks, yay! More terrain! |
| Rottenlead | 28 Jan 2012 4:33 a.m. PST |
They could be oversized water barrels. I am sure if I tried hard I could find something similar to scale in current modern times. Only on TMP would a lengthy discussion on the size of the barrels kick off! :) Great to see people discussing the layout of course. @Angel Barracks: That is the Imperator Mecha which is the first Gruntz "official model". I have been naughty and let my standard membership lapse but I have just signed up again to be supporting. Hey hang on.. My paypal receipt just came through and I spotted the last one from August last year. I paid $25 USD for a years membership in August and my status stayed as a non-supporting member. I guess somehow my sign up was lost? Time to send Bill another message I think. |

@Angel Barracks: That is the Imperata Mecha which is the first Gruntz "official model". All the best in that case. Must be exciting to have your own range as it were. :D |

Sorry Robin was just poking fun at a Mate and related membership
. No Harm ment other than some "Good Natured" (intended) quipping on my part. After looking at the blog post pictures I see the photographer threw down some seemingly appropriate terrain infront of a back drop and took some quite loverly photos. |

Porfirio, youre opening a can of worms. I might be able to find the thread if I searched, but this issue has been addressed before, and it isnt Gruntz' fault. I don't know what he said but, Kealios, but – of course he is: 114 stifles and counting (including mine [hence my ignorance]). Nice shot, nice painting and – even allowing for the enormous 'tanks/canisters/drums' whatever – very pleasing eye candy. John T |

At the airport I used to work at, de-icer and hydraulic fluid was stored in oversized barrels
Why wouldn't an oversized walking tank need the same storage containers? ;) Rear view

guys, dont be too hard on porfiro, as i understand he is a lawyer
.so its only natural that every breath out of his body is utterly annoying
.it is probably one of his career skills to constantly stir up conflict and arguments and that is the grain of salt with which i take all of his comments |

Great paint job on a great model! Nice photography too, it's not as easy as it seems. I'm still not sure what color scheme to attempt on mine, but I'm looking forward to painting it. |

I particularly like the OSL on the gun arm, which is a lot more visible when following the link. You can juuuust see it on top of the hand and the forearm in the pic here. It is noticeable but not overpowering, which is just how it should be. |

I just noticed I failed to answer porfirio on the roller skates question. The answer is no they are not skates, they were just intended to be large grippy sections of material in metal or other sc-fi composite. |

@ Spartan117 – Bit too cryptic for me. I expect it's time I ducked out of this thread

No one has to pay to advertise their company on here. Who said they did? The Editor is kind enough not to require it. I think you may need to read more carefully angel barracks because you've made this same non-answer previously. It would be good manners though, if you are coming here to shill your wares, to help support the site that makes it possible, which is not run for free after all. Cheers for the answer GruntZ, the feet do rather look like roller skates though, which is cute. Also, what height is the Han Solo model? It looks considerably smaller than a 15mm model? The barrels would be ok in scale with the mech if they didn't have those two pour flanges on the tops! That's what blows the scale. |

@ Porfirio "Also, what height is the Han Solo model? It looks considerably smaller than a 15mm model?" Much of Spiffs stuff is based around 10mm mini's |

Cheers for that, yes, it does further confuse the scale of the picture. |

greetings! i am pleased to see that my work has generated some interesting comments. i will attempt to clear up some of the questions: 1. the barrels are from a 1:35 model kit. they are intended to be extremely large storage tanks in this setting. the hook-ups for accessing the contents are retracted hoses underneath the barrels. since they are in a retracted position- so as not to create an OSHA tripping hazard- you cannot see them right now. 2. Han Solo is a generic pilot mini from a 1:144 Votoms armored trooper set. all i did was get creative with the paint job. 3. i do work almost exclusively in 10mm ( N scale or 1:200 up to 1:144 scale ). however, if i find cool minis that are a close enough fit, i will certainly use them. i have recently been experimenting with a few 15mm minis that can pass for 10mm. this is one of those. i enjoy the comments, folks. thanks! |
