This title just came up in a Google search. I see it is available at Amazon UK but not yet in the US. Has anyone seen it yet? Is this a new title in the series of French computerized uniform books?

barcah2001;

This book actually came out back in 2008 and received pretty good reviews here on TMP (and elsewhere). Here is the link to the original thread:

I own an English copy and have used it extensively as a reference. I had to order mine directly through LBT, which was not inexpensive, so if there is a less expensive source now it is well worth the cost.

BTW – Stéphane also hosts a great blog on the period and his company, LBT, also offers a book (only in French) by the renowned Dr. Pierre Picouet on the tercios, developed from his web site "The Spanish Tercios" with new material. Also well worth having. You can find Stéphane's blog here:

Thank you very much! I'll look at the site.

I've got it, great book, you won't regret buying it if you have any interest in the TYW, never mind just the French involvement.

You don't happen to also have his latest--

La bataille d'Avins

The cover certainly looks good.

Picked it up at Fall In--you're right--a really great book

barcah2001,

Sorry, just noticed you'd asked about La Battaille d'Avins – I didn't have that book, but I've just downloaded a pdf copy – at 10 Euros it's a bargain, the French isn't that difficult (maybe the reproduced contemporary accounts might be, haven't had that good a read of them yet). Illustrations are lovely, maps and oob very useful – highly recommended.

Rudorff--that is a real bargain! Where did you get the download?

From Stephane's website here – you will have to register first, but it takes only a few minutes.

Lots of pretty pictures, but the text and analysis is very sloppy, uncritical and even, dare I say, amateurish.

I finished the book knowing only a little more about the French involvement in the war than when I started, and learned only very little about the French army's appearance during the war. Most of the information is generic TYW and compiled with little skill or critical ability, and poorly sourced to boot.

On a good day (like today), out of five stars, I would give the book three. However, at 10 euros I would not hesitate to buy it again, if only for the colour pictures!
