Hi, I'm interested in suitable figures for an EIR era allied force. Under DBMM these can consist of Knights ( fast)and Light Horse(Fast)
Any advice on some likely fellows?
I have had alook back at a couple of earlier Nabatean posts but these seem to be largely infantry

I have no idea how accurate it is, but the Nabatean in the Osprey looks a little like a 19th Century Beja or Somali camel rider (longish hair in ringlets, loose robe over one shoulder), except he is armed with a bow. A Numidian might do too, I suppose. Or his head, at least.

I just remembered these guys from the Gripping Beast desert frontier range:

A bit of a Greenstuff robe over the left shoulder, give him a bow (I seem to recall GB sell bows separately) plus hang a small round shield off the side of the saddle and they would look just like the fellow in the Osprey book.

A pity that they don't do the heads from the above picture on these bodies (from the same range):

That would do it. But those robey bits wouldn't be too hard to fabricate.

I'd guess that they wouldn't be hugely different to Palmyran troops – if that's the case (any takers to back this up/refute?) there are a number of manufacturers that would cover these.

Not this one. That you started.

Or just use Nubadubadibians. No difference between Negroid and Berber and Semitic features in most figure ranges.

casterway arts may offer suitable items

Have a look at Copplestone Castings Somalis from his Darkest Africa range. I've used the infantry from this range as 3rd Century BC Arabs and they fit the bill rather well.

Oops, thanks Allen, I thought I had asked something similar but couldn't find it on an initial search.
Thanks for the advice

cheers

In the other thread Pat talked about the heavy cavalry perhaps looking rather Hellenistic. As Phil says, above, the armoured cavalry might perhaps have appeared similar to Palmyrans. The armour depicted on statures of Palmyran warrior gods looks very hellenistic (Desert Frontier Osprey). The gods, however, also have baggy trousers and Big Hair.

I wonder whether Polemarch Successor cavalry might do, with added baggy pants and beards? Presumably the big hair would have beeen hidden under a helmet. As an added bonus, the baggy trousers would help the riders to fit in their saddles. ;-)

Re the fast cavalry, the Desert Frontier Osprey also talks about Nabatea as providing horse archers in the Early Empire.

Cheers, Simon

Thanks Simon, I'll have a squiz at the Polemarch stuff.

Cheers

Both the swathed and un-swathed camel riders above were part of Gripping Beast's "Desert Frontier" range?
