Was about to order old glory figs from warweb site; two of my friends who previously ordered within 2 weeks of each other both told me not to use a credit card as both of their cards were hacked and used to make other online purchases.

Use a check or money order instead.

frostydog28 Jul 2011 3:17 a.m. PST

Or get a pre paid card

Cosmic Reset28 Jul 2011 3:46 a.m. PST

Hmmm, interesting. I had the same thing happen immediately after ordering from them earlier this year. I ordered on 4/22, and a week later got a call from my credit card company about a bunch of charges at retail storefronts and gas stations in Kansas City.

My account was shut down before Warweb actually charged the card, so I had to call them with a new CC number and had no problem with the called in number.

Dynaman878928 Jul 2011 3:49 a.m. PST

I have made many WarWeb orders, and although my card was hacked once it has not been any other time. (and the one time was before the WW put in their charge).

My guess is that it is a coincidence.

Johnnyutah28 Jul 2011 4:07 a.m. PST

Exact same thing happened to my father irishserb

Buckeye AKA Darryl28 Jul 2011 4:50 a.m. PST

That's strange, my card had some bogus transactions on it after my Warweb order earlier this year as well. All of them came from Minnesota.

Sounds like their system is not secure. Add to the customer service issues I have had with them in the recent past, I certainly will not be ordering from them again. Why, oh why, did the previous owner sell? Best service out there, and no issues with credit card security.

CPBelt28 Jul 2011 5:03 a.m. PST

Thanks for the heads up. They are off my list for good!

BTW I only use paypal online. That should be more secure?

rhacelt28 Jul 2011 5:16 a.m. PST

I used to order from them allot. I did not know they had changed hands. I made an order two months ago and still have not received it, they used to be a little slow but this is getting to be to long of wait.

Angel Barracks28 Jul 2011 5:33 a.m. PST

Yes.
Vendors do not get your card or account details, PayPal just send them the funds without divulging your details.

Thanks for the heads up. I won't be using a CC with them.

Darryl--I agree with you 100%.

Exactly why I love Paypal as both a buyer and a seller; if I haven't got anybody's card details, I don't have to worry about keeping them safe….

I've had an order on back order for 20 days now… Ugh… Not buying Old Glory stuff there anymore. Still haven't shipped. I thought maybe they actually had the items in stock when I ordered them. I have had two responses to my emails to them, but both have been replied to by someone different each time. I'll stick it out as I only ordered a couple things with Paypal(no unknown charges that im aware of).

Atlhough, I think I have ordered from Warweb two times: The First time and the Last time.

If I order from OG themselves I pay a dollar more for shipping but atleast I get the order within a week.

Man of Few Words28 Jul 2011 6:16 a.m. PST

While I still am on the "coincidence" side, my story is a repeat of Irishserb's.
In May, CC company called on Tuesday about two charges in Florida that were very small amounts but by Saturday the charge was $50+. I completed payment transaction by phone call with Warweb and items arrived quickly.

jtkimmel28 Jul 2011 6:21 a.m. PST

They seem to be very hit or miss. I have ordered from them twice (one recent, other a couple years ago) and had no issues (I use Paypal though), and got my order within 2 weeks both times. While others have had great difficulty getting their orders fulfilled.

Leadgend28 Jul 2011 6:24 a.m. PST

I've ordered lots of stuff from Warweb over several years and it's all turned up eventually. The 40% discount makes up for being a bit slow in delivery. I've also have a fraudulent CC use issue soon after buying from them but have used Paypal since with no problem.

JonFreitag28 Jul 2011 6:27 a.m. PST

Same experience for me on a Warweb transaction in May. Since this was around the same time as the security breach at Citibank, I chocked the episode up to the security breach.

lkmjbc328 Jul 2011 6:35 a.m. PST

I would bet the security breach was with Citibank. Most online retailers either don't store CC numbers (they do a real time transaction) or if the number is stored… it is carefully encrypted (you can't get insurance otherwise). The banks rules are very strict on this (we went through the thing with my company a couple of years ago).

Warweb has always had fast service for me….though if they have an item out of stock… it does take some time to fill the order.

The Gonk28 Jul 2011 6:49 a.m. PST

I've ordered more stuff from WarWeb than anywhere else-- enough that I wouldn't want to bandy a number about in case it gets back to my wife. I have paid for every order with a credit card, and have never had a problem. IMO, WarWeb is one of the best retailers out there.

Personal logo aegiscg47 Supporting Member of TMP28 Jul 2011 7:08 a.m. PST

OK, this is making some sense to me now. I ordered some OG packs from them last month and a week or two later there were several charges in California and Texas for about $600 USD in golf equipment. I had to get new cards, change all of my account info on a dozen sites, etc., so it was quite the ordeal. No way to know if it was them or not and they should be given the chance to defend themselves, but definitely not out of the realm of possibility that this is what happened.

VonTed28 Jul 2011 7:20 a.m. PST

This is too bad, I liked Warweb

Dynaman878928 Jul 2011 7:23 a.m. PST

> I would bet the security breach was with Citibank

My card was a Citibank now that you mention it.

I think WW uses another company for CC transactions, so they may need to switch to a different service.

darthfozzywig28 Jul 2011 7:25 a.m. PST

You guys should notify them. All of you. There are steps they can and should take to upgrade their security.

Whiskey5128 Jul 2011 7:33 a.m. PST

Btw, my issue is resolved and shipping tomorrow. No CC problems as I used paypal. Hopefully they pull through they do have a large selection and decent prices.

Stephens12328 Jul 2011 7:44 a.m. PST

Ditto with CC mischarges. Some fool tried to use my CC to purchase Airline tickets to Istanbul. Thankfully CC company questioned before allowing charges. All this happened very shortly after order to WarWeb. I suspected them but had/have no proof of direct link so let it go. I ended up getting subscription to lifelock for protection. BTW my card was a Barclay card not CitiBank.

Dynaman878928 Jul 2011 7:46 a.m. PST

> You guys should notify them. All of you. There are steps they can and should take to upgrade their security.

I just did, and sent a link to this discussion along with it.

Buzzkill28 Jul 2011 7:50 a.m. PST

I have ordered from WW in the past and had no CC or customer service problems. I am surprised that everyone says that Paypal is secure and they have never had problems with them. I have had my Paypal account hacked twice in the last two years, most recently for $1,200 USD sent to a chinese guy. I have removed my bank account from Paypal for that reason and only use credit cards on Paypal. I prefer not to use Paypal at all, and not just because of their fees, I am not a real confident in their security.

Cosmic Reset28 Jul 2011 8:03 a.m. PST

I called my CC company to follow up on the investigation relating to my CC after posting here earlier, and my CC got very funny about. Went overboard telling me how I am protected, that none of my personal info could get out, only a number and a name, etc, etc (How would they know what could be stolen from another comapany?). They didn't seem too interested in any info relating to a security problem with Warweb or any other company. Anyway, it is Citibank. I suspect the problem is not be with Warweb. I will give them rders in the future.

Additonally, I had no service issues with Warweb. On the phone, they were quite pleasant, shipping time was about what I'd expect. It was a positive experience.

Striker28 Jul 2011 8:42 a.m. PST

Unfortunatley for me this thread came out after I just placed an order with them. I've never had a problem in the past regarding service or fraudulent charges and I've ordered from them pretty regularly. I'm keeping an eye open on any funky charges though just in case.

Schogun28 Jul 2011 9:15 a.m. PST

I got a call from Citibank last week about possible fraudulent activity and that they were closing my current account number and issuing new cards.

However, I have not purchased anything from any figure mfrs lately. So maybe the CC breach wasn't WarWeb.

Lots of hacking happening now. The cyberwars are really heating up. Scary.

axabrax28 Jul 2011 9:21 a.m. PST

My prob is the back orders. I've typically waited a month for anything from them, sometimes longer.

Man of Few Words28 Jul 2011 9:25 a.m. PST

Again I am following Irishserb's note: doubt it was WarWeb's fault, got good service, phone call solved payment problems. My account was NOT CitiBank. I thought that the purpose of this thread was to inform War Web.

Dynaman878928 Jul 2011 9:39 a.m. PST

I thought that the purpose of this thread was to inform War Web.

I've done so and they wrote back to me, one of them is supposed to add a message to this thread addressing the issue.

BundyTime28 Jul 2011 10:02 a.m. PST

Quite possibly, and probably… the problem is not WarWeb, or CitiBank/Barclays etc., but the processor they use. There have been many instances of the CC processor getting hacked and info stolen then sold off. Has happened twice to my wife, and the CC/Banks are very reluctant to divulge the chink in the system.

Maybe they just brought on the old owner of Michigan Toy Soldiers and he is applying his expertise.

JRacel28 Jul 2011 11:45 a.m. PST

Doctor X, that is not exactly helping in regards to this topic.

I am more insterested in the delays since I was planning an order from WW. Not like the delay will kill me, but something to think about. I use PayPal rather than give out my CC all the time.

combatpainter Fezian28 Jul 2011 2:05 p.m. PST

Prepaid card or paypal. Do they take Paypal? They better after this thread.

Striker28 Jul 2011 2:44 p.m. PST

Yes they take papal. They didn't originally.

jclaxton28 Jul 2011 10:02 p.m. PST

A few months ago I ordered some miniatures from warweb and received them rather quickly. Perhaps a week after this my CC company phoned about odd charges on the card. I had it cancelled. I emailed warweb and they denied that the issue was on their end. The card however was new. The first and only use was at warweb. Sadly I won't shop there again. The turn around time was excellent though.

Dicedork28 Jul 2011 10:41 p.m. PST

Interesting to hear other accounts about warweb – I think I'll just go order through my FLGS even though warweb's discount on Old Glory is hard to resist.

Stephen Thomas29 Jul 2011 3:44 a.m. PST

The problem with WW steemed from th server, they got hacked then hacked into the servers customers sites and stole info for almost all of the servers customers. We have been told that the server has updated all their protection software and thatof their customers.

As far as the lenght of shipping times goes, WW is "hostage" to its suppliers. If we are O/S of an item, we have to wait for our supplier to get it to us. While we carry a large stock, at any one point in time, we will be out of something … can't be helped.

Also, due to the economy, some of our suppliers have cut back on staff (OG comes to mind) and they as they also attend cons which also puts them back in re-stocks.

Some of our product comes from over seas … delays there in production, minium order requirements and shipping times.

So we, along with our customer base, wait. It's out of our hands. We are sorry for the delays, but some just can not be avoided due to speed by which our suppliers respond to our requests for more product.

Never had a problem with Warweb. One of my favorites

Steve,
Why wasn't the information regarding this event passed along to your customers?

BundyTime29 Jul 2011 7:04 a.m. PST

Why wasn't the information regarding this event passed along to your customers?

Quite right.

I know banks like to protect the ID of the processors they use, but if your notified the server is hacked you need to get that info out! That's on your end.

Also, so you are storing customer CC info? Is this a transaction log, or a customer database?

Buckeye AKA Darryl09 Aug 2011 5:53 a.m. PST

The previous owners would send an email about items on backorder. That is something that should happen as part of the customer service experience. Between the hacking and the lack of communication TMP link some folks are becoming more and more hesitant to order. Shame, I like the discount amount that is applied on nearly every item, but doesn't do me any good if a) I can't get what I order, b) I am not being told about backorders, and c) I have to update new credit card info across the various places I use my card online because of the payment processor being hacked.

DeanMoto09 Aug 2011 3:22 p.m. PST

Oh no; wish I had know, I ordered several months ago & rec'd a notice from my bank that my CC had been compromised; and I just placed another order several weeks ago – still not rec'd. Oh my. Dean

Private Matter10 Aug 2011 9:21 a.m. PST

I've used WarWeb several times over the past four years and have never had a single problem. I'd be very comfortable recommending them as a good vendor.

DeanMoto11 Aug 2011 2:20 p.m. PST

True enough; I just rec'd an email response from them regarding my concerns. I love the discounts! I will likely use Paypal next time, just in case. Best, Dean

Striker19 Aug 2011 5:32 a.m. PST

FYI, my order arrived within a reasonable amount of time (I forgot about this thread) and I haven't seen anything suspicious on my card. I'll probably paypal it next time but so far no problems.
