Hi, just wondering if there would be any interest in running a painted mini exchange for 15mm scifi….probably character models, extras, but nothing like vehicles or big monsters……
I have seen it done on CMON, I think it might be a good way to get to know one another better and benefit from seeing each others painting styles up close.
I am not volunteering to organize it, but think it would be fun, as everyone of us enjoys getting goodies in the mail.
Respond if you would like to take part, and with any suggestions on how to do it.
I imagine it might be best to have different groups for exchange based on USA uk and rest of world for those who don't want to incur large postal fees.
What says you all?
Ps I guess I could organize it with helpful input

I am finishing up on a TMP random swap that had 14 people involved. PM me if you run it for some advice learned firsthand.

Oh, and I would be willing willing to take part of this one.

I might be interested depending on how life treats me over the next couple of weeks. A few major issues I am waiting to see how they turn out before I could commit to anything.

any input as to doing it with single figure vs 5 man group.it could also be something you have painted a while ago, so as not to be under the gun

I would be interested in joining, I don't think postage would be a problem, what would the postage for a couple of 15mm figures be anyway, a couple of $, and I can't see the problem with having to paint them now as apposed to already having them painted, it wouldn't take long to paint a couple of 15mm characters.

PygmaelionAgain18 Jun 2011 2:38 p.m. PST

I would be interested in joining up.

I don't normally paint 15mm figures, but this gives me an excuse to order some stuff from Khurasan and Splintered Light… and I'd then be ~Forced~ to pad out the order to make shipping worthwhile ;)

Is this the kind of exchange where we paint our figure/unit and send it to the next guy (kind of like a secret santa), or is it a box of roving goodies where you can pick out as many as you put in (a sort of roving take a penny leave a penny tray)?

Is there any calibration for "I like 15mm xeno types, but bob likes humans with laser guns?". I guess I don't mind if there isn't… I mean. This isn't a Gimme Gimme kind of idea. It's a Givey Givey.

I'm in the U.S.A., so if this does form up, please put me on that roster.

I guess I had in mind a paint up a five guy squad and send it off like a secret Santa……..but whatever everyone wants to do is fine by me

PygmaelionAgain18 Jun 2011 4:14 p.m. PST

I do like the 5 man squad notion… Even if my paint-fu lacks, painting 5 guys the same way lends itself to the notion of stylized cohesion.

I would like to join in if it is like this.

I like the idea of a 5 man squad as well!

ThorLongus19 Jun 2011 11:06 a.m. PST

Well so far I count 6 possible,
If in the next few days it reaches 10 definites, I will start a signup thread linked from this one.
Once the signup thread is posted, I will give a 2week deadline for signing up, then the exchange will be locked out from new participants.
After the lockout, I will randomly assign mailing addresses to the participants, with a goal of mailing out your package within 2weeks.
….so, this should give everyone at least a month to paint 5 15mm miniatures to a standard that they are proud of ( of course you can send off stuff already completed and collecting dust).
My idea is for a 5 man team/squad ,either all the same or a mixed mercenary team
2 questions…
1) when I collect addresses for randomization, should the participant list address in signup or pm it to me…either way
….also in signup list any restrictions for your mailing….I.e. Prefer to mail to continental USA
2) should we even worry about basing
Does all this sound cool? Suggestions accepted gladly

I think I'd be up for it, my 15mm collection is pretty weak at the moment, it might give me a big of variety. Dunno what I'd be sending though.

My thoughts on basing are simple. If the figures are already based, fine, but if you are doing them special, perhaps no basing, or simply gluing them to any flat base, such as pennies r whatnot, that way it is easier for the receiver to rebase the figures to their standard.

Ivan DBA19 Jun 2011 4:44 p.m. PST

I'm in for the five-man squad trade.

Gunner Dunbar19 Jun 2011 6:18 p.m. PST

Yeah no base if possible, I'm thinking of heavily converting or even sculpting some figures for this, I have a few ideas floating around.

Jeff W19 Jun 2011 7:25 p.m. PST

I'm interested as well. I like the five man trade/no bases.

Sounds like it is a go
Will post a separate sign up thread with rules tomorrow

malleman19 Jun 2011 8:34 p.m. PST

Got kind of excited about the 15mm exchange program, so I started on a 5man squad last night. I think we need an acronym or something.

loco smoko19 Jun 2011 8:45 p.m. PST

Heck, I'd be keen for that.
I did something last year for a freiend but that was with warmachine solos.
I'll keep an eye open for the sign up thread.

Cheers

So, painted only, no basing materials?

I will chime in with the opinion that while basing IS a gigantic paint in the petard, it really does finish a figure off right.

Also, with no supporting base under the integrated one, there's not a lot of room to add material to properly base it.

If the goal here is to avoid sending desert based figures to someone who only plays on green mats, I suppose I understand. I personally will feel like I sent that guy "half a job". By no means is this issue a deal breaker for me… just a thought I figured was worth typing out.

malleman19 Jun 2011 9:36 p.m. PST

I am fine either way. I glued mine to pennies and evened them out with green stuff for the new owner to fix up as he sees fit.
