Yeah, I know, its been done before. But I figured its been long enough to drag it out again. So what are your favorite Aliens, Greys, Beasties, Baddies, Xenomorphs, Cephalopods, and general Bad Things from other planets in 15mm? |
Battle Miniatures Emporium | 15 Mar 2011 4:39 a.m. PST |
I plead the ole faithful standard answer: "Cool Dudes, Sexy Girls, Scary Monsters." If they are Near Future, Sci-Horror, Deep Space, or Fantasy
I am happy with them all. Fallout & Resident Evil, Star Trek & Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings & H.P. Lovecraft
you know, The Good Stuff. |

Aliens from "Aliens" and "AVP", Bugs from "Starship Troopers", and Lovecraft types are always good, but the past few years my favorites have to be Red and Green Martians (Black Hat miniatures)from Burroughs. |

My current favourite 15mm sci fi alien range is Critical Mass Games' Protolene Khanates (but not the vehicles / mecha unfortunately) see 'em here: link They have some great poses and I think they'll be the next peak of my 15mm sci fi lead mountain that gets painted up! I also really like GZG's Crusties and Kra'vak. The crusties have lots of poses and are getting the treatment at the moment with support weapons and mecha but the Kra'vak range really needs, at the very least, more infantry options! Unfortunately at the moment no one produces a high tech 15mm sci fi alien force with lots of poses and support personnel and higher command (or the alien equivalent). |

Of the miniatures currently in production, I don't have a single favorite, but rather several that I really like. These would be - Khurasan Garn Felids GZG Crusties CMG Protolene @Sackofmonkeys – I'd have listed the Kra'Vak but they really need to be updated. |

Im still waiting for something like this: link Thought the baddies in Battle LA were really good. Looked good and moved well. I liked 'em better that Prawn in D9. As for 15mm baddies that are out right now GZG's Ix and Crusties are okay but I havent been moved to buy either yet. Dame with Khurasans Space Demons. I'm hoping for some good new releases in the Aliens department for 2011. I want something eveil to play with to invade Earth for use with Eurekas Ultra-Modern releases coming out this year. |

Just had a look at the Critical Mass Minis. They have released quite a bit of new stuff since my last visit. I gotta say, they did great job with with the variety of choices for their Protolene and Kaamados races. The only other company currently putting out that kind of variety for a single race is Ground Zero Games. The only draw back for the Protolene race is that its another space race that looks like a friggin earth animal race. Im so tired of that. Cant we have an alien designer with an original idea please. Hopefully some one will come out with a surprise race or two this year. Maybe even a Battle of LA knock off, or a new race from GZG? Cheers. |

Why don't you bloody make them then, instead of starting threads every few weeks to ask for favourite sci fi aliens, just to cack all over the suggestions? It's the same thing with you over and over. |

Quar
Easily Quar. I don't own any, but the idea is excellent. Anything really lower tech too. The Prawn
er..Crusties. -Cough.- from GZG look awesome. There were some displayed at a convention I went to, but they sold out quickly on the 2nd day and I didn't make it until the 3rd day. :/ Though, did I seriously read above that the Crusties are getting that oh so special mech? After re-watching that movie in 1080p (The definition makes a difference I've found, Blu-rays aren't all just overpriced and over-rated DVDs. So much more amazing.) I really really want that mech for wargaming and I spent two hours staring at my greenstuff and wondering if I had enough left after my recent conversions to sculpt one in 15mm, let alone 28mm. I sadly do not. |

"The Prawn
er..Crusties. -Cough.- from GZG look awesome." Yep, gotta agreee. I totally dismissed them at first glance but GZG has done an outstanding job fleshing out the line. I may make them a subserviant race of an invading force, not unlike the, heh-hem, Prawn in D9. As my main Earth invading force right now I'm leaning towards the Protolene with lots of robot/drone assisstance, at least until something "meaner" looking comes along! The "Space Demons" (just a working title, not related to Khurasan's Space Demons) I'm pitching at Eureka are designed to fill that roll. They are going to be based on the Baddies from the game "Resistance Fall of Man", w/out infringing on any I.P. rights of course ;-) picture picture picture picture My goal with these is to make them the scariest looking 15mm Alien ever made, and then give them guns, lol. link At least they are doing better that Space Babes with guns so far! |

Where/ who are they Sargonarhes? Link? |
Sargonarhes | 18 Mar 2011 2:25 p.m. PST |
I don't know of any that look like Resistance Chimera, but all the Chimera are are mutated humans with a coolant system mounted on their backs to cool their high metabolism. It might be possible to modify any human figures for that, but at 15mm scale that's a lot of small work. |
28mmMan | 18 Mar 2011 3:07 p.m. PST |
I will offer the road less traveled, as the easy answers would be the front pagers GZG, Khurasan, Critical Mass, Zombiesmith, Blue Moon, etc.. One of the new guys, offering a nice collection of well designed and unique spider/crab aliens

My favorite aliens to use in 15mm games are 25mm Dreenoi from StarGuard. 28mm Space Zoats from 40K are good, too. Also 28mm Martian Invaders (Cephalids and their war machines) from Parroom Station. The scale differential makes for really impressive-looking confrontations! |
