Check out these guys:

"The command is 15mm to the eyes and the infantry is 15mm to the top of the head. These are scaled to be children soldiers. If you ever really wanted to do Berlin and the end of the war with the correct figures here they are."

I wonder how they would compare in size next to Rebel Minis and Eureka (as auxiliaries to Eureka's SF Nazis). Would there be a sufficient size difference to use them that way?

NOW YOUVE CROSSED A LINE!

15mm Hitler Youth. Child soldiers. What a tasteful subject.

Surely I can come up with something worse. I know I can, given time. Don't wait up.

Oh, yes: remember the lad who wanted to do ovens? Surely there's a place for Zyklon B chambers and ovens in some Sci-Fi Hobbiton, post-Sharkey? Or mass graves of Bolgers and Proudfeet?

I like the way you think, Dan. It's very much in the spirit of the very best TMPers. Most of them are gone now, but you have a chance to restore their legacy. Go for it.

Were there any teenagers involved in the Warsaw uprising? That could be an alternate use…

Wolfprophet10 Mar 2011 6:29 p.m. PST

No reason to deny history, though Nazi hobbits is certainly a new one….

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER10 Mar 2011 6:51 p.m. PST

We had a guy in L.A. that did up his Orcs as Nazis.

Cacique Caribe10 Mar 2011 6:57 p.m. PST

Allen,

So what's your take on Eureka doing SF Nazis then? Did you share with them your feelings, or are they reserved for just me?

If just me, then I'm flattered for at least getting your attention.

Dan
PS. By the way, is Obscure Miniatures the first company to make Hitler Youth figures?

PPS. I wasn't even suggesting using them as Hitler Youth. just as Hobbits, diminutive Mutants or even as small Aliens.

Toaster10 Mar 2011 6:58 p.m. PST

Hasselfree does WWI tommy hobbits.

Allen,

Just curious. Did you voice your thoughts here?

Or here?

And lots of others too, from what a simple search shows.

I'm not really interested in searching for the subject, Dan. Your enthusiastic ("!!!") topic title drew the eye. Nor did I notice, apparently, the previous apologist threads. Lots of gray boxes there, though, so I'm guessing those are folks that fit the mold.

Yes, I think Eureka stooped pretty low with this one. Will it do any good to voice an opinion? I'm still not buying from a number of vendors that participated in a past Salute (the one with the Hitler Jugend re-enactors) and did not voice their disgust. But you can bet your hairy hobbit feet that far, far more people will be spending their shekels on these.

If fielding vertically-challenged humanoids in stahlhelms floats your boat, more power to you. As Red Skelton used to say at the end of his show, "God bless."

Yeah, but now you will need elves, dwarves, ogres, orcs, and so on. I could see SS ogres--that would be cool. Would orcs be Wehrmacht? Who are the elves? I assume Allied. Paratrooping elves? Now that is scary! Elves don't fly! See what you've done. Next we'll have orcs in Napoleonic uniforms and some company in England will write a game for them. Curse you, Dan! Once again, you destroyed our hobby!

aecurtis Fezian10 Mar 2011 9:00 p.m. PST

I think Mary Gentle went there first. "Grunts!": 1992. "Flintloque": 1995.

Of course, Messrs. Beard and Kenney had an early shot at the subject in 1969. Some of us may even recall that.

Some things just don't belong together or mix well:

Cats and Mice
Oil and Water
Hobbits and nazis

OMG

…and the dust of Tolkien just fluffed over.
I see your point for use of the figures Dan.
Title of this topic was bound to annoy some people…lol.

Paintbeast10 Mar 2011 11:35 p.m. PST

At first glance I was inclined to back slowly from the room without comment. Frankly the Nazi this and Nazi that trend leaves me cold, and occasionally disgusted. After a bit of thought I find I actually rather like the idea of Nazi Hobbits. The idea of Hobbits as the self proclaimed "Master Race" adds just the right touch of the ridiculous. It would be pretty easy to cast Orcs or even Elves in this role, but doing so doesn't really add anything new to the theme…Make the fascist punt-able little potbellied gluttons and your on to something. The next step would be to cast the Orcs as Russians, and the various allies as Humans, Elves, Dwarves (etc…) all working together to overcome the menace of the 3 Foot Reich.

Little Big Wars10 Mar 2011 11:39 p.m. PST

It'd work, I suppose, but does anyone really want sci-fi hobbits, Nazi or no? Ratlings are bad enough…

No worries 'bout crossing lines in my view… Nazis tend to be the most cartoony villains present in wargaming (especially Weird War) and to have them represented as Hobbits…

Now that the idea has settled a bit after the first reading….. It's quite brilliant and a little silly. Then again, like at least a few others here. I don't see a line to cross. It's all fair game if you can put your mind to it.
