Is there any actual evidence that the Tony of Defiance Games is the same as the Tony (ex Wargames Factory)? Could be just a coincidence? |

Well, Howard Whitehouse is listed as the moderator for the forums
Best of luck to 'em, says I. And I like what I am seeing so far.

"Back"? They'll be back when they make some toys and you can give them money and they send stuff to you. I wish them luck and everything, but really
they've got a picture on the net and they're 'back'? I don't mean to sound churlish; but the amount of companies whose websites are full of design concepts and artwork and mission statments – but whose shelves are empty – is really starting to grip my colon. All the best to them, anyhow. :) |

It will be interesting to see if they go to China for their production this time or if they stay closer to home

Lee Brilleaux | 24 Feb 2011 6:59 a.m. PST |
We've made no announcements yet, because we want to have actual plastic goodies in our hands, all ready for sale, before we declare ourselves officially open for business. As some people have rightly mentioned, having images of models that aren't yet available isn't all that helpful for the customer. We really feel for people like Pogoame, whose orders were completely messed up by the actions of our erstwhile colleagues. I spent most of December talking to customers whose orders from October were allegedly sent from China and mysteriously still in transit. So our past experience has taught us that reliable delivery has to be a strong feature of any business. So, no, there will be no connection with China in any form whatsoever. All design and production will take place in New England. Everything will be within a van-drive from our facility at Triangle in Malden, working once again with the disabled workers there. We'll be showing renders to allow the kind of community feedback we've come to consider part of our creative process, but we won't offer anything for sale until it's all packed up and ready to go out to customers. Historicals? Seriously, can anyone who knows us imagine we won't do historicals? Go and look at the works-in-progress at our also in-progress website: defiancegames.com |

Good luck, MJS! If I might plump for a line, how about plastic AWI focusing on militia or line troops (yes, there was a long discussion of this earlier--I'm not a button counter and would be happy to field cheap, if vaguely inaccurate figures). Similarly, generic dark-age/medieval peasants would be helpful. Good luck. bob |

Interesting that I cannot open the Defiance site in China. All I get is a Made in the USA statement. I can open it with a proxy. I have nothing to do with any party in the dispute. I would be interested in doing the survey and agree that more 18th Century would be nice. Add horses and guns and I would order a bunch. I always wanted to recreate Charles Grant's the Wargame and they would be ideal. ML |

Once bitten
..as they say. Nothing from me for any company that has Tony Reidy involved in it. Cheated, ignored and then lied to by fan boy proxies, that was my one and only experience of dealing with him. Never again. |
Lee Brilleaux | 24 Feb 2011 10:14 a.m. PST |
We'll start with Tony's 'Alien Suns' Sci Fi universe – gritty rather than shiny 23rd Century stuff, humans and alien. Sci Fi sells well, and a start-up company needs a few hits before we can get down to the business of Jenkins, his ear, and the kettle-drummers involved therewith. There's just the four of us and we are keeping it lean – no company retreats to Martinique this year – but we need to sell enough to make it a real, viable business. We'll certainly do some form of customer involvement in projects, although (having processed 80% of the original Liberty and Union suggestions, some of which were very odd indeed) we'll probably point the bus in one direction and ask where people want to stop rather than let everyone take a turn at the wheel :) |
Lee Brilleaux | 24 Feb 2011 10:25 a.m. PST |
RobH, you didn't complain when I sent you a free bunch of heads from my own stash of plastic bits, did you? The problems you encountered were all part of the 'product not sent/product sent late/product stuck in customs' rigmarole that our former colleagues foisted on us. If you didn't get the information you needed, it was because we weren't free to gripe about what was going on at the delivery end. I am certainly never happy to have to deal with a customer whose very real complaint is the consequence of somebody in my own company's screw up several thousand miles away. That's a no-win situation. So, I'm really sorry that you got caught in that (and I hope you finally get your merchandise, which may or may not be in Utah as I type). But a huge part of what we are doing now is to avoid exactly that kind of situation brewing again. We'll be using established businesses with great reputations for service for mail order, and avoid all that 'wait forever for the shipment, then take the baby seats out of the minivan to deliver parcels to the PO' stuff' that was such a problem with WF. You know my email address. Contact me. |

| mex10mm | 24 Feb 2011 12:00 p.m. PST |
@ Mexican Jack Squint Will Defiance Games keep the "Shock Troopers" or are those gone with Wargames Factory´s "new" managment? If they are gone, will Defience Games produce in the future some kind of "generic, german-looking, futuristic troopers"? And, will there ever be "heavy weapons teams to these "generic, german-looking, futuristic troopers"? I hope you can, at this point, answer this questions. Also, I wish you good luck in your new project; It is very good to see the "Average Joe" standing again after being trampled by a giant. |
| RobH | 24 Feb 2011 12:07 p.m. PST |
RobH, you didn't complain when I sent you a free bunch of heads from my own stash of plastic bits, did you? Nice dig Howard, I used to think better of you than that. Sending them foc was totally your choice not my request. As you chose to mention it, I take it you see that being a fair exchange with the concious decision to take $150 USD of my money and resell my ordered/paid for goods openly at a wargame show? How much longer are you going to be the apologist? |
Lee Brilleaux | 24 Feb 2011 12:15 p.m. PST |
The universe of Alien Suns certainly features such weird and improbable beings as "Germans". They'll be highly efficient, and no doubt have the sort of equipment that efficient soldiers of the future would be expected to have. All kidding aside, the Shock Troopers are part of the old WF line. Sculptor Tim Barry is discussing some issues of rights with the current management, and might be open to completing the heavy weapons teams for the Shock Troops. I am not directly party to those negotiations. We will be starting from scratch. We have a long list of interesting troops from the future, of which I especially enjoy the idea of Australian power armour with slouch hats and kangaroo-fists, and the giant anti-grav cowboy boots of the New Texas Rangers. Of course, sensible heads may overrule me there ---- :) There will indeed be Germans. Thanks for the kind words! |
Lee Brilleaux | 24 Feb 2011 12:25 p.m. PST |
RobH, I sent you some little plastic bits. It was no big deal. People send me things quite often. I do the same. Who demands money for an international stamp, an envelope and a quarter ounce of plastic? It's part of the brotherhood of wargaming. What I don't do when they send me little parcels of goodies is spend the next few weeks badmouthing the tiny companies that pay their wages. I know you got a raw deal, and I am sorry it happened. But your constant choice to believe the worst of people is tiresome and unjustified. If you want to contact me directly, feel free to do so. |

Come on Howard! You are more than edgy enough for Starbucks. Jiffy Lube on the other hand is a whole different story. Too many ex-cons. Remember that if you do end up at either of those or another equally draining retail job, customers don't have to roll for initative. Unless your working the drive-thru. Glad to see you guys back in the game. Titch |
