Hi All, I've started painting up old miniatures I didn't know what to do with as COBRA and GI JOE characters. Are there any rulesets that would capture the flavor of the GI JOE world? You know a hand full of bad ass Joes (who've been stuck at E4 and E5 for 20 years) versus a horde of COBRA troopers. thanks in advance, Baconfat |

LOTS of shooting but no one gets hit or hurt. Pilots can even parachute out of helicopters |

One source you could check would be the A-Team TV series. Think they're the same universe. |

40k Close at a charge, disabling any vehicles in a hail of otherwise ineffective red or blue laser fire, then resolve the meeting with a fist fight? |

Shockforce, Chain reaction's 5150. I think Shockforce would be best as you can have a large defence for the elites, and low defence for the mooks. |

I have been toying with the idea of using Where Heroes Dare! The Modern vehicles and weapons can be used straight from Iron Ivan Games Seek Out, Close With, and Destroy book while Where Heroes Dare! would allow you to create the Joes and the Cobra personalities and still keep the nameless flunky fodder. With the Schtick rules, you can flesh out the personalities and the Giant Robot rules would work great for Cobra, S.N.A.K.E.S. anyone? More on Where Heroes Dare! here: link Doc |

Which version of GI Joe? There are so many now. The movie? Renegades? Original? |

It would have to be the 80's for me. New Line Designs carries the Mongrel Minis Cold War figures that could be adapted into a number of Joes or Cobra figures. Also Victory Force Miniatures have some nice Not Cobra figures: link Doc |

Not trying to dissuade you but wouldnt it be easier to use the action figures? |
Doctor Merkury | 26 Dec 2010 9:01 a.m. PST |
The Action figures would be easier no doubt, but where is the fun in that?:) |

I remember seeing someone make some really cool Cobra Conversions out of some Void 1.1 minis. Here's a TMP discussion from some time back regarding miniature suggestions. TMP link For rules, I'd recommend 5150 or No Limits. There's a Savage Worlds setting called Strike Force Seven, which is basically a GI Joe vs. Cobra setting. It's also available in SpyCraft rules. It's more of an RPG, but with Savage World's free skirmish rules, you can convert it to a miniatures game. link If you want to keep with using action figures, I'd recommend Toy Wars. The realism should be the same as the 80s animated series. |

I'll second the Savage Worlds freebie rules. What I've played of Savage worlds is right up there with the Cartoon Action Hour RPG wherein the baddy always runs to fight another day, and the heroes might be down, but they're rarely out of action for keeps. Also, to add theme to whatever game you play, end every turn by telling your opponent about an incredible toy/snack food/fun park they must bother their parents about. Also, all battles should end with a public service announcement. That will make the Joe experience so authentic, you'll swear there's some assembly required! |

Frag-o-Ramafrag-o-rama.blogspot.com Great fun rules for solo, vs, team or deathmatch style games. Wow. Thanks for recommending my rules. For more RPG type game, there's a game called Cartoon Action Hour that covers several types of saturday morning cartoon settings including GI Joe. zmangames.com/products/CAH Disclaimer: I have not played CAH myself. |

Though I do not have a rules recommendation at this time. I do highly recommend the Heroclix figure Kobra for Serpentor. picture picture |
