I'd like to create the Stonewall Brigade in miniature. 10mm to be precise. Not for any specific battle, but probably for sometime early in the war. So, 1861 or 1862. What are my options for uniforms, and what color should they be? Can anyone help out? I haven't managed to find anything specific online. If the uniforms varied, I'd like to know how they changed so I can have options for how the regiments look. |

Thanks for the links, Mericanach. My local library does not have that book you suggested. I could buy the book from Amazon, but I'm hoping some knowledgeable person here can save me the time and money of doing that. |

Go light on the sack coats though
Sack coats weren't as heavily used in the Confederacy as they were in the Union army

The aforementioned reenactment unit is one of the better uniformed ones. If you look through the articles there is a good one on the Brigade's '61 uniforms as well. This info is pretty solid! And good advice on not including the sack coats. Jackets far more common on Union soldiers than sacks on Confederate. Of course "typical" can be hard to nail down during the ACW. :) |

So
light grey frock coats, trousers, and kepi for everyone, except for one regiment with blue frock coats? Is that right? And black leather belts and straps? Would some be wearing slouch hats? |

Depends when
Manassas uniforms would be drastically different from say Sharpsburg or even Gaines' Mill! Virginians typically wore early Richmond depot uniforms, but you may still see the odd plain frock coat and some overshirts as well (commonly gray, but sometimes blue or red or even green). Companies or individuals sometimes bought uniforms from suppliers in Richmond that specialized in manufacturing everything the soldier could want (like the famous Courtney & Tennet uniform). |

They are your figures and they are 10mm! Gray Frocks and kepis with black belting are close enough. Some variation in shades is cool either randomly or by regt. And the occasional Hat or Havelock would NOT be wrong to add a little variety or not!! Sack coats are not very likely early or ever. Later shorter jackets became almost, but certainly not completely, universal in ANV and AOT, and hats often replaced kepis/forage caps in most units! Good luck! It is always good when a guy tries to do it right, often though there are more ways to do it "right" than one!! |
