Hello General, What flags you want to use for the Stonewall Brigade will depend on the time period. Up until mid-1862 each of the five regiments in the brigade carried either a Virginia state flag or a 1st national flag. The 2nd Va had obtained a flag made by George Ruskell that had the state arms on one side and the unit designation on the other. The 5th Va had a state flag with the first side having the state arms set within a single star and the reverse side decorated with an eagle holding a 1st national flag. The other regiments carried either Virginia state flags or 1st nationals. In the later summer of 1862 the entire brigade was issued unmarked 2nd Bunting pattern battleflags. These were the familiar Army of Northern Virginia battleflags, albeit with orange borders. In August or September of 1863 these flags were replaced with 3rd Bunting battleflags marked with both unit designations and battle honours. The 3rd Bunting battleflag had white borders instead of the earlier orange. After the destruction of Johnson's Division at Spotsylvania in May 1864 the brigade was consolidated into a single regimental sized unit. If the brigade was treated in the same manner as the similarly consolidated Louisiana brigades were, the Stonewall Brigade then most likely carried only a single 3rd Bunting battleflag. Hope this helps, Ryan Toews |

Hello Paul, Glad to help. I've been working on sorting out the flags of what became Johnson's Divison for some time. It most certainly had the most varied flags of any division in the ANV until after Gettysburg. Ryan |

Definately check the Flag Dude, Rick O'Brien. Very nice flags, I use them on all my collections. |
