This one looks like it could be nice link ; I like the author's artwork and suppositions on his website. Dean

P.S. Weird thing is when I went to the "search inside" link, it shows the book with artwork from a previously released Spartan or Hoplite book.

DeanMoto08 Dec 2010 11:15 p.m. PST

Ah, dude TMP link I did a search for the title…

aecurtis Fezian08 Dec 2010 11:21 p.m. PST

Hi Dean!

Didn't the same artist do the cover of the Hannibal book?

John the OFM09 Dec 2010 10:09 a.m. PST

Not enough pink in the kilts. See Yadin.

Just twist that knife…

RelliK09 Dec 2010 8:07 p.m. PST

Allen,

Thats a little harsh don't you think.

If it will make you feel better.

"I'm sorry" :.^(

TESTUDO10 Dec 2010 3:17 a.m. PST

Wich "Hannibal book" you mean, Rellik?

Scutatus10 Dec 2010 8:51 a.m. PST

It would be Allen's own offering. Hence the "twist the knife" comment. I don't believe Allen is a fan of the artist Giuseppe Rava, having criticised his accuracy before now. That would be rather unfortunate since Giuseppe's art is on the front cover of Allen's Hannibal. Although I personally don't see what could be wrong with that particular example. But perhaps I am blind.

Interestingly Giuseppe has done the covers for most of WAB's supplements. If one is not a fan, that could be an irritant. :)

Mr. Rava:

I like your artwork – very vibrant and lively. I loved the paintings you did for the Ancient Warfare issue with the Seven against Thebes article. Respects, Dean

P.S. I am getting that Osprey.

P.P.S. With all due respect, though, what is your reference for those branches/twigs in the helmet on warrior on the far left of the cover?

TESTUDO10 Dec 2010 9:47 a.m. PST

It would be worrying if my art pleases everyone.
Someone could think I'm paying them moneywink

Thanks for debating,
G.Rava

Never worked for Ancient Warfare magazine, sorry.

As a military illustrator who paint from Bronze age to Vietnam war, I tell you I' m not allowed to discuss the sources of the authors, I paint what they ask for and then approve.

Obviously I would refuse to give an RPG to a Micenean….I would refuse?…… what' s the fee?

Thanks for your kind words DeanmMoto

DeanMoto10 Dec 2010 10:14 a.m. PST

Ooops, sorry, it was Igor Dzis – very similar styles. Got it on the author's confidentiality – I should be able to find out once I get that book grin Regards, Dean

Mr. G. Rava,

What are you doing on TMP?

Do you play with little men too?

Since I was a child, I paint, sculpt, play with these and probably large part of my art is due to these.
Fortunately never been in a real war

RelliK10 Dec 2010 5:53 p.m. PST

Probably, closest thing to going to war is havin' a game with Allen!

Say, where is Allen. Hope all is well…

Some very interesting art there, make me quite curious to look a little deeper into this period!

Keraunos31 Mar 2011 9:06 a.m. PST

can anyone review the content of this at all?

colin knight01 Apr 2011 1:43 a.m. PST

I have just bought one. should arrive by weekend.

colin knight04 Apr 2011 3:36 p.m. PST

So far I love the art work and very inspiring for anyone into the period. Seems well researched to me. A very visually appealling book.

DeanMoto20 Jun 2011 8:15 p.m. PST

I just got my copy this evening. I'm very, very happy with the purchase (via Amazon.com). IMO, there are a lot of color images in the book, not just the beautiful illustrations, but of actual artifacts. More color images than most Ospreys, I think. Also, I think that the cover image probably was not the best in the book – there are a lot more illustrations that would probably have been a better choice for the over art (the Chia head helmet doesn't draw the best criticisms).
