Battle Miniatures Emporium01 Dec 2010 10:51 a.m. PST

I am doing it, so get your vote in.

So far it looks like Gamma World…

Garand01 Dec 2010 11:01 a.m. PST

I voted for "Other" because none of the options are really appealing IMHO…

Damon.

Battle Miniatures Emporium01 Dec 2010 11:03 a.m. PST

Then post what YOU want Bro…
YOU, YOU, YOU!
…and if I like it, it WILL be done.

The Beast Rampant01 Dec 2010 3:36 p.m. PST

I have wanted 15mm Gamma World for a while now. When Mutants & Death-Ray Guns came out, I really wanted to have a go at it, but I wanted some really "Gamma Worldey" minis; sadly, while some can be pressed into service, there are few that really fit the genre.

McWong7301 Dec 2010 3:41 p.m. PST

Though I'm more into military sci fi, some 15mm Gamma World and Shadowrun would make for some cool figures.

Battle Miniatures Emporium01 Dec 2010 4:03 p.m. PST

I agree with you both, that is probably why I am sculpting them…no one else has or will.

Meanwhile there are a million NOT-Aliens and NOT-Terminators with multiple explorations into The Million Ways To Dress A Human With A Zap Rifle…well it has been done, and done, and done.

I am making The Crazy Stuff…The Sexy Stuff, The Heroic Stuff, and The Scary Stuff.

You know…The stuff we grew up with in Heavy Metal Magazine and in our RPG's.

I am NOT doing this for $$$…I am doing it BECAUSE I LOVE IT!
…and I know a few of you do also.

This may also interest some of you as it relates to the topic.

P.S.: Thanks Bill for fixing the title.
grin

Redroom01 Dec 2010 5:49 p.m. PST

Gamma World would be cool. Some not S:A&B Chigs would also be.

Battle Miniatures Emporium01 Dec 2010 6:05 p.m. PST

You know what Redroom…I am going to finish that darned Chig I started last year…lol…and call it a Mutant.
I kind of had some misgivings about it, because it was ripping off someone else's concept…but since there are so many Not-thises and Not-thats out from other companies…I am going to do a few too.

Chigs are coming…for real this time.

(Major Disaster)01 Dec 2010 11:42 p.m. PST

I voted RIFTS because I love the Coalition States of America's Deaths Headed combat armor as well as the New German Republic's Full Conversion Cyborgs. Can never have enough combat armor clad figures or enough cyborgs! Oh yeah, I like the Xiticix Warriors too!

SAAB CHIGS!!! I'll be one of your first customers in line for those! Gotta to have not-Chigs to wipe out my friend's Rebel Minis not-Wild Cards Marines.

Spartan 117

Battle Miniatures Emporium02 Dec 2010 5:13 a.m. PST

"I voted RIFTS because I love the Coalition States of America's Deaths Headed combat armor"

Brother…you are going to love The NAC then…lol…oh my…my, my, my…Super Storm Troopers Of Death…the Not-Chaos, The 15MM 40K, and The Not-Halo Brothers will like them too…yup.

Of course I am doing them because of all of the super bad guys I grew up with in the pages of Heavy Metal, and well…lol…I like Rifts too.

Little Big Wars02 Dec 2010 5:18 a.m. PST

Yeah, no one's done the Dead Boys any justice. Mine are EF Marines with Scourge headswaps. The Scene's borgs are actually a good fit for the Full-Conversion Borgs, but don't really have the options that the NGR ones did (shoulder-mounted mini-missiles, etc…). Rifts really is the sci-fantasy setting that takes the cake for me, and thanks largely to Khurasan and GZG's efforts I can make something of a not NGR come to life. What I can't do are Glitter Boys and Ley-Line Walkers, not without sculpting my own.

Lampyridae02 Dec 2010 5:19 a.m. PST

I need some bad mutant muthas for my post-apoc gaming and not-Orks, so it's Gamma World for me.

Battle Miniatures Emporium02 Dec 2010 5:48 a.m. PST

I am doing a taste of everything from my little poll options…with a nice glazing of Heavy Metal Magazine.

What I wanted to know was what did my Brothers Of The One Five (Thanks Ed) REALLY Want to see done, which way should I lean towards as I sculpt…you know what I mean Brothers.
Anyhow…
I am all about The Evil Meanie-Guys…lol… because everybody has done some very good looking Goodie-Guys.
We have a plenty of The Goodies.

What we NEED IMO are the The Crazies, The Sexies, The Comic Book Styled (Lobo/Conan/Den…) Heroies, and The Scaries.

I'm thinking that we ARE all going to have some fun games in 2011.

(I make fun of others)02 Dec 2010 9:57 a.m. PST

Rather reminiscent of the polls you ran on the Black Autumn blog, the last time you were going to singlehandedly revolutionize 15mm wargaming.

This time around, you are going at it better, actually posting pictures of some sculpts. Whilst so far they are not anything I'd personally buy, seeing the models being made is an important mark in your favour. But you've got to rein it in a bit. Like last time, you are getting people worked up about all the models you claim you're going to make. Best to go at it step by step, make something, move it along the process, and release it, and then successfully fulfill orders. Then there's room for a little bravura. grin

Making all these promises ahead of time is very Black Autumn, very Legend and Fiend, very, dare I say, Big Mean Elf, not very Battle Miniatures Emporium.

Eli Arndt02 Dec 2010 10:02 a.m. PST

Rope it in BME.

If you you want anybody to take you seriously you need to really show you have changed.

I would suggest that you do what other sculptors trying to get into the biz have done and wait until you have a miniature to show.

Also, your polls have a tendency to be rather pointless in the past, usually being followed up by a lot of you anouncing what you are going to do, despite the commentary.

If you have a vision, just follow it. The people who like it will chime in and let you know and those that don't will continue to buy the stuff that is already out there.

RKE Steve02 Dec 2010 10:50 a.m. PST

Sorry but I have to jump on this band wagon as well. Joe you really need to complete at LEAST one green. You do keep showing bits and bobs and you really do get people excited about what you WILL be doing. Let's do something and call it complete.

Battle Miniatures Emporium02 Dec 2010 1:31 p.m. PST

Good points my friends, and I thank you for the advise and the concern.
Remember the scene in Avatar when Jake first woke up and tried out his legs?
The medical staff cautioned him.
He Ran anyway.
He overcame his fears…
He DID what he was meant to do.

That is what I am doing.

The last thing I am going to do…Is Rope Anything In.

I AM RUNNING!

As for the Poll…it is very much something that I take seriously, and I am going to lean towards the direction that it determines.
And…I am going to do what I want to do too.
grin

RKE Steve02 Dec 2010 2:26 p.m. PST

No one says you should not do what you want to do. It's just you get everyone excited when you say you will do something and then we never see it. You also ran polls last time too.

Eli Arndt02 Dec 2010 3:15 p.m. PST

I guess if I had to put it in simple terms, I'd have to say that "doing it yours way" hasn't rendered results in the past.

With other companies churning out very nice miniatures in regular quantities all the time, why should a potential customer place any faith in the same ol' dog and pony show that you have presented before.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing the change here.

I love you guys.

18th C. 'ladies' (of any repute), female soldiers (the Eureka 'Sandra' cease to enlarge in diversity years ago and the Hinterland female husars cannot be converted to the 'Lace Wars') and 'fighting chicks' / vampire hunters (re. the Van Helsing movie) / werewolf hunters / tomb raiders – the 'characters' made mounted and dismounted as in those old 'adventurers' blisters for D&D) in 28mm. A *cruel* lack of, while the mid-18th C. is the niche par excellence of Imagi-Nations, and even 'historical' gamers in the period *love* to make vignettes with characters of both sexes.

Not at all what you were asking for, but maybe you'll feel intrigued enough?

Battle Miniatures Emporium03 Dec 2010 3:54 p.m. PST

Don't forget to give a sword, pistols -hooked at rhe waist or strapped along the thight…) to potentially 'fighting' types

Then… for the civilians, from poor peasants to (fighting) Gypsy girls to noble ladies (and a Vatican's secret agent-cum-courtesan-cum-asassin) look at the 'Brotherhood of the Wolf' movie; Jess Franco's 'Justine de Sade' link and the remake of 'Fanfan la Tulipe' link link are also inspirational (not hard to 'feminise' the uniforms, including with incentives to a wargaming subgenre already familiar to Fantasy players: 'navel wargaming' picture .
Note that adventurous women / 'active heroines / female heroes (basic heroines scream and have to be rescued) would wear their hair dressed in the fashion of a 18th C. man's wig picture

Then imagine what (historical) hussar skintight trousers can do on a gorgeous feminine silhouette picture specially if her dolman sports a deep V-neck cleavage…

For other types of characters or troops the 'sober' riding skirts of the Hinterland female Hussars link would be appropriate (the difficulty with these minis come from very late-19th C. details, such as the ammo pouchs link , the decoration of the busby picture & of course the weapons: 'Lace Wars' gamers wish for 18th c. Pandour Maiden Guards); 'alternate' versions without braiding and with a tricorn instead of a busby would be useful..

Brother you DO provide good reference's…lol…WOW!

I can see some of the ladies in your links happening…when I get back to working on Towns Folk, but right now I am working on Monsters and Gangs for Tomorrow Black.

Imagine her as part of a Traders Entourage?
Sci-Fied up a bit…of course.

Thank you for the good response!

Now if my "Other" Voters could chime in with what they mean when they chose that option in my little poll.

So it looks like a lot of us want Gamma World in 15MM.
grin

John Treadaway08 Dec 2010 7:48 a.m. PST

I'm not sure what I'd want you to do in 15mm – gamma world sounds nice enough.

What I would say is that – just having looked at your blog and the sculpts on it – anything you do make will be very, very well worth buying.

There is an astonishing level of detail, anatomy and animation in your work. From the mid-eighties to the mid-nineties, I spent 11 years being the F&SF reviewer for Practical Wargamer* and I have rarely seen work of that quality and probably never in this scale.

Congrats sir.

John T

* I'm only saying that to emphasise that I know a good sculpt when I see one :)

Nothing against a bit of Sci-Fiaction, provided she could easily be converted back to the 18th C. (some manufacturers astutely have weapons held in place by a pin -in the hand, the waistbelt…) so they caneasily be changed to fiat another period.
Examples of 'typical' weaponry for 'female heroes':

(though I would prefer both with tricornes..)
and in 28mm!!!

Battle Miniatures Emporium08 Dec 2010 12:47 p.m. PST

Thank you Mr.Treadaway

I want my toys to look like a movie the caliber of: Lord of The Rings, Terminator II Judgement Day, Conan The Barbarian, and Avatar…to name a few.

The same goes for my game table…It has to have the energy of a serious rock concert.

It takes time to make a little 13MM Gobliniod look like Conan. Time, dedication, and love.

The truth is I could zip-a-dee-doo out a gameable miniature every day or so, but that is NOT what I am about.

Please feel free to stay in contact, so that I can send you some free models in March.

Joseph

Hello abdul666lw

I am on it, girl-sized gun in hand, so that you can trim it off…lol.

Battle Miniatures Emporium23 Dec 2010 10:08 p.m. PST

Not to harp on it to much, but this is the last week to get your vote in on this poll.

It looks like Gamma World, which means a lot of Mutants and crazy Cyborgs and such.
Cool.
