I thought this thread from 2006 was worthy of a poll.

So I am curious about this too, what is your beverage of choice while gaming at a convention? While coffee is my go-to drink under most circumstances I find a Dark and Stormy to be a fine complement to convention gaming.

Who asked this joker14 Sep 2010 6:47 a.m. PST

Beer! Like there is another choice! I like Microbrews. If there are none to be had at the bar, I bring my own.

Sysiphus14 Sep 2010 7:02 a.m. PST

Beer, dulls the senses and you don't mind so much if the other players are inept.

John the OFM14 Sep 2010 7:03 a.m. PST

Yuengling lager.

Diet RC soda.

As much as I'd like to have a few beers, alcohol and my meds do not mix well.

whill414 Sep 2010 7:17 a.m. PST

Dr. Pepper for me.

Another Account Deleted14 Sep 2010 7:19 a.m. PST

Yeungling Lager is THE convention drink of choice.

nickinsomerset14 Sep 2010 7:20 a.m. PST

Beer, Beer more Beer then a couple of Coffees (NATO)and some coke in the morning.

Tally Ho!

rddfxx14 Sep 2010 7:35 a.m. PST

Mostly coffee -- black -- and Coke

richarDISNEY14 Sep 2010 7:39 a.m. PST

Beer. Lots and lots of beer.
Once I was running a game and brought a keg.
Security was not too happy about it… Until I told them to help themselves. Then they seemed to make "security passes" about every 1/2 hour after that. AND refilling their cups… "Just to be sure". Classic. I love KublaCon.

I also make Gin and Tonics in the 1L tonic bottles to walk about the floor.

beer

nazrat14 Sep 2010 8:01 a.m. PST

Jim Beam Black and whatever I have to mix it with.

DeanMoto14 Sep 2010 8:04 a.m. PST

So far, only diet soda. Would like to drink some beer, but I have to drive back from the convention and hate to miss the next day locked up in jail.

Acharnement14 Sep 2010 8:08 a.m. PST

Root Beer! It is a compromise, though. You have to buy it in plastic bottles so you can keep it carbonated. The frosty mug is impractical except for the victory toast.

tigrifsgt14 Sep 2010 8:20 a.m. PST

Black coffee or Pepsi Max.

Captain Swing14 Sep 2010 8:28 a.m. PST

Cider (preferably some form of scrumpy, but not likely in most places unless brought in yourself).

TodCreasey14 Sep 2010 8:44 a.m. PST

Last year I was dry at Cangames and just Vitamin Water. And man did I have a better time.

So beer only when the gaming is done…

nycjadie14 Sep 2010 8:52 a.m. PST

Diet Coke. I live on caffeine.

I like beer as well. I played only one game where I wish beer was not available to two of the players. They were so sloshed, that they could barely play and spit foam all over the figs. I thought that game would never end. Here's to holding your liquor!

The Monstrous Jake14 Sep 2010 8:53 a.m. PST

Coffee for me, thank you very much.

Eclectic Wave14 Sep 2010 8:59 a.m. PST

Mountain Dew -

Yeungling Lager is THE convention drink of choice.

Yes, but only in Pennsylvania. My policy is to support the local brewers wherever the con is located. Craft beer is the only way to go, preferably a stout or porter; supplemented by moderate quantities of single malt, of course. (Fair warning: some scotches, notably Laphroaig and other Islay malts, are not good Breakfast Scotches).

mad monkey 114 Sep 2010 9:09 a.m. PST

Beer and unsweet tea.

Cardinal Ximenez14 Sep 2010 9:38 a.m. PST

Water and coffee during daylight hours.

Dalwhinnie in the evening.

DM

anleiher14 Sep 2010 9:44 a.m. PST

Black coffee.

Oldenbarnevelt14 Sep 2010 9:57 a.m. PST

Diet coke? Naw, I go for the hard stuff: coca cola, no diet. I don't think alcoholic drinks appropriate for gaming cons.

Mirosav14 Sep 2010 9:57 a.m. PST

Diet Coke, Coke and water in the morning, beer later.

highlandcatfrog14 Sep 2010 10:03 a.m. PST

Pepsi.

jlstuht14 Sep 2010 10:17 a.m. PST

Gallons of coffee during the day and a snifter of single-malt for after – preferably Laphroaig but a spot of Talisker is also nice!

Top Gun Ace14 Sep 2010 10:44 a.m. PST

Ice cold Pepsi of course!

ming3114 Sep 2010 11:40 a.m. PST

Water , Pepsi , Arnold Palmers , Beer and bourbon.

CeruLucifus14 Sep 2010 11:45 a.m. PST

Favorite? Beer obviously. In practice I limit myself to meals and breaks, if I can get that much.

Next would be a cafe latte or capuccino or failing that, coffee. Again I limit myself. 1 latte per 2 beers is a good way to go if available which it rarely is.

For thirst quenching, club soda / sparkling water / iced tea / diluted lemonade in any combination.

Silurian14 Sep 2010 12:34 p.m. PST

Coffee during the day.
Beer starts half way through the last game of the evening, and continues on through the postmortems.

CPBelt14 Sep 2010 1:10 p.m. PST

Drunk gamers at a con…always a 'family friendly' experience. ;-)

richarDISNEY14 Sep 2010 1:13 p.m. PST

Also Bawls soda.
Jolt.
Or Sparks energy malt liquor.
beer

redbanner414514 Sep 2010 1:18 p.m. PST

Beer after dinner. Tea, coffee or water during the day. Can't start too early

Billiam14 Sep 2010 1:21 p.m. PST

Coffee, then Diet Rite, then Irish Coffee, then more Diet Rite, then beer, then yet more Diet Rite, capping the night with a martini. Day 2: rinse, repeat.

Though August's convention had me drinking retro Mountain Dew (with cane sugar). Was on a sugar and caffeine high all weekend.

Well said that man.
Some of the tee-shirts I see people wearing ar shows shocks me at times.

Tea or Coffee for me.

Doc Ord14 Sep 2010 3:38 p.m. PST

Yuengling porter or Black and Tan.

Captain Apathy14 Sep 2010 3:39 p.m. PST

I have heard it said that there are sometimes meta-games at conventions where attendees see how many adult beverages they can consume and still win games. Not that I have ever participated myself mind you…

peru52200014 Sep 2010 4:07 p.m. PST

mountain Dew

evbates14 Sep 2010 5:04 p.m. PST

Beer and Diet Pepsi.

Gonsalvo14 Sep 2010 6:25 p.m. PST

Don't much care for beer (gasp!), and usually running games so I need a clear mind; diet soda daytime, wine for discussions after a game… although I like the idea of a Dark and Stormy as well, especially after an Age of Sail Naval game, LOL!

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER14 Sep 2010 9:01 p.m. PST

Back in the day,(pre 94) 2 bloody Marys while setting up for the game on Sat Morning. Then a beer with lunch, and wine with dinner.

Jay Arnold14 Sep 2010 10:40 p.m. PST

Since my favorite convention is held in a high school gymnasium, Dr Pepper.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP15 Sep 2010 4:30 a.m. PST

Water, orange Juice, Smoothie, coffee.

If you can't make a decent cappucino then don't – just do filter coffee.

COL Scott0again16 Sep 2010 1:39 a.m. PST

Water- non flavored real water

Coffee- is the fuel that driver the dreams of champions

Two fluids without which life is not possible, or enjoyable.
