OK, with Historicon coming up, I think it's appropriate to discuss your favorite convention beverage. Aside from the obvious (e.g., coffee for morning games), I like a good cold beer (preferably some imported or micro-brew) during historical games starting either around noon (have to have standards afterall). Pulp, Sci-Fi or something in between calls for a mixed drink and of course myfavorite period (The Renaissance) calls for a good hearty red wine. But who would have guessed that? Any others? |

While at Historicon I enjoy Lancaster Hop Hog IPA at the Host's bar. If it's available this time around I would like to give their Hefe Weizen a try. I'll be sure to pack a cooler for refreshment during my pulp games. That will feature River Horse Hop Hazard, Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial Pale Ale, and probably some iced coffee to keep me energized. —Tom |

When attending Cons that have a local brew that's unavailable in my balliwick, I try to sample the natives' potion. This was Yuengling for my 2 Historicon visits & Dixie or Abita (with frequent between-game trips to the "drive-thru" daquiri bar) during previous Bayou Wars in New Orleans; otherwise, I favor Bushmill's Black Label Irish (AKA Black Bush)in my hip-flask. |

*looks down his nose at John* Real gentlemen wait until at least 1 pm to start drinking. ;-) In the morning I've been know to walk the 1/2 mile down the hill to the Starbucks – wakes me up and I get some mild exercise in before a day of sitting around and junk food. The Country Inn has pretty good coffee also, and they thoughtfully supply travel lids. During the day – lots of diet Coke or water. In the evening – I'll take most anything that's local from the tap at the Host's bar. I like that IPA that Tom mentioned. Barring that, whatever is offered me by my friends from their coolers. :-) Later, Markus |

Depends on the mood. |

John – yes! I don't drink soda unless I go to the movies or one of the HMGS cons
and usually for the HMGS cons it's Barques. (Not my favorite rootbeer, but it's really good, and it's my favorite at a con – especially chasing down hallway pork or a hotdog) |

For Historicon I've got to drink lots of water, especially when I run a game – all that talking makes you thirsty! Otherwise, I rely on Coke. |

Water, coffee, Water, Water, Water, Water, Beer, Beer, Beer, Water. My fav beers for the convention would be the free ones Sierra Nevada Stout, Porter, or IPA when I bring it are some of my favorites. Otherwise Yuengling or Guinness will do. |

Tom wrote: "Markus, I'm thinking of bringing my coffee maker along this year. I can't live for 4 days without immediate access to coffee upon waking." What?!?!?! The Host doesn't have coffeemakers in the rooms? What kind of a low-rent dump IS it? That's it. You East guys will NEVER lure me back there again until you move to a classier venue. Having coffee available in a restaurant or kiosks is all very well once the body has started moving, but that first cup has to come before getting in the shower, and that means in-room coffee, kids, because you don't want to see a cranky Allen wandering the halls in search of caffeine in his flip-flops and boxer shorts. Thank heavens the LAX Westin has decent amenities. Allen |

I second Spurius Millius' post. Thoughts of Historicon always involve Yngling Dark. In the New Orleans area it's Dixie Blackened Voodoo. In Texas, Shiner Bock is the best! Onward through the Fog! |

"What?!?!?! The Host doesn't have coffeemakers in the rooms? What kind of a low-rent dump IS it?" Allen – we're actually at the Country Inn next door. Very nice place. Coffee maker, microwave, and minifridge in the room, and free coffee downstairs with the complimentary breakfast bar. I just prefer Starbucks, and the morning constitutional to and fro. Don't know about the Host. Even if they had a coffee maker in the room (which I don't remember), I wouldn't use it. Tom – sounds like a good idea. Later, Markus |
