I had a flash of inspiration for making cheap terrain. I'm sure it's been done before somewhere, but here is my offering: cheap 15mm scale Sci-Fi bunkers.

Nice work!

Another quick one is to use a clear plastic tub (with a well-fitting lid) chuck some green flock into it, shake it about a bit and turn it upside down. Hey-presto the moonbase algae-production dome.

After all in the future everyone lives on food pills made from algae protein, or at least they did in the 60s version of the future!

Brilliant work. I got a flashback to the plastic container scenery from the Rogue Trader rulebook. Great minis/blog also, I've been looking for good pics of the Human Imperial Army, and yours are the best I've seen. Thanks!

As to the yoplait container, check this out:

land O' Lakes butter containers make great buildings/bunkers, too.

Everyone, thanks for the kind words.

@Ordinarybass: The Major General should have been promoted by now, his stuff is always inspiring! And, thanks for the compliment, glad you like them.

@CC: Great links, you are the master of TMP linking!

I am really starting to get into this "found terrain" way of thinking. I think those butter containers would be good for 28mm but maybe a little too large for 15mm? I had the same problem in reverse with my bunkers: they're too small for 28mm, unless you make them a single occupant Space Marine drop pod or something.

Great job with the "yoghurt bunkers"! :-)

Jumping in with a quick plug, this is of course exactly why we made our extensive range of 15mm building fittings, doors and accessories – to detail and dress-up buildings made from card, foam, scrap packaging or anything else you like!

You can find the fittings here:

Also good fodder are the plastic tubs Gerber baby food comes in. There are two sizes. I'll be swimming in the things shortly.

I am always looking at blister packaging and plastic meat & produce trays with a view to turning them upside down and using them as buildings.

It's a bit of an illness really…

Kelroy,

Fantastic work! I've done similar things for years, and it's a great way for some quick terrain. And if you step on it or it gets crushed in a box, you aren't really out anything. Look forward to your next projects.
