From "The Day After Tomorrow" transcript.

-------------------------

Where do you suggest they go?

- The farther south they go, the safer they'll be. Texas. Parts of Florida that aren't flooded. Mexico would be best.

Mexico? Maybe you should stick to science and leave policy to us.

- Well, we tried that approach. You didn't want to hear about the science when it could have made a difference.

What exactly are you proposing, professor?

- Evacuate everyone south of that line.

What about the people in the North?

- I'm afraid it's too late for them.

-------------------------------------------

Breaking news from the U.S. -Mexico border.
Just half an hour ago, Mexican officials closed the border…
…in the light of so many U.S. refugees who are fleeing south…
…in the wake of the approaching storm.
These people came in anticipation of crossing into Mexico.
Instead, they've been met with closed gates.
And now, in a dramatic reversal of illegal immigration…
…thousands of people are crossing the Rio Grande into Mexico.
The scene unfolding here behind me is one of desperation and frustration.
People have abandoned their cars, grabbed their belongings…
…and they are wading across the river illegally into Mexico.

---------------------------------------

After hours of uncertainty, the traffic is now moving smoothly…
…from the United States into Mexico.
This is only possible because the president was able to negotiate a deal…
…to forgive all Latin American debt in exchange for opening the border.
Now, multitudes of American families are feeling a rush of relief…

----------------------------------

The fact that my first address to you comes from a consulate on foreign soil…
…is a testament to our changed reality.
Not only Americans…
…but people all around the globe are now guests in the nations…
…we once called The Third World.
In our time of need, they have taken us in and sheltered us.
And I am deeply grateful for their hospitality.

QUESTION:

So, as the title says, who makes modern-day Mexican troops in 15mm?

Thanks.

And just use different camo?

Weapons are different though. Wiki tells all.

I am at the border and see them all the time. They were desert camo over here.

If anyone could provide a tutorial, from which figures to purchase to how to paint them, I would greatly appreciate it. I would love to do a skirmish force for my wife, she misses Mexico tremendously :-)

From some folks who have lived there, and some who have made trips recently, you'd be fine using Kevlar-helmeted Americans with M16s. The G36 – sorry, Fire Serpent (I know, I know, HundK looked and said it wasn't a copy) isn't widely distributed yet. You'd probably be just fine with a mix of G3-, M16- and G36-armed troops. I'd go with Peter Pigs Professionals with G3/SLR, and do some headswaps with their US/Kevlar helmet heads.

combatpainter Fezian02 Mar 2010 9:21 p.m. PST

Also, the camo is too close to tell the difference. Anything done in a desert como will fit the bill. Just make them brown people.

"Is it time for the US to take over northern Mexico yet"?

Why stop there when some of the nicer beaches, and fishing and diving spots are further south?

Cancun, here we come…..

In a "Day After Tomorrow" scenario, with US and Canadian troops and masses of citizens rushing south, trying to get away from from the deadly effects of a sudden deadly new Ice Age . . .

Imagine a few unexpected border skirmishes between US and Mexican troops turning into an all out Second Mexican American War.

On a gaming table, would you imagine a terrain table with US civilian camps on Mexican soil, defended by US and Canadian troops (from all sorts of units), with limited supplies brought over from the US at the last minute, being attacked by better supplied Mexican regulars and special forces (with easy access to fuel, food and water on their home soil)?

Or would you imagine gaming a more determined and better supplied push by the US, taking over strategic supply depots to support the civilian population on the move?

And, because the US/Canadian troops would have brought barely enough food and water for themselves and the masses of civilians moving south, would you imagine a forced depopulation of Mexican nationals as the US/Canadian troops move south?

You are absolutely right!!!

Good point. All the fuel-to-ship pipelines in the Gulf will suffer.

Of course, in "The Day After Tomorrow", most of the US and all of Canada ended up under a thick sheet of ice:

That would be a lot worse than what happened in the last ice age:

I would like more squad-level organization info for some Mexican army vs. aliens scenarios… all those pyramids must be beacons or something, right?

Mexican army vs. aliens scenarios… all those pyramids must be beacons or something, right?

That would be cool – I've always had a hankering for Not-US/Russia/UK vs. Aliens. More of an interesting challenge, and you don't have to come up with something that can threaten an M1 Abrams that doesn't just end the game outright.

As for squad-level organization of the Mexican Army, good luck. I haven't found *anything*. I'd just throw together the usual assortment of riflemen, support weapons and command. Things would be falling apart/changing so fast that the TOE would be forgotten in a heartbeat. To get the 'feel' of the scenario, I'd focus on making sure the equipment was pretty much right (vehicles, mainly) and the terrain.

One thing that always bothered me about that bit was this. The US is snafued by that stage as is Western Europe

Why would Latin American Debt forgiveness figure into it, who's there to call in the debt

Anyway, nice idea for a game or three

nvdoyle03 Mar 2010 10:39 a.m. PST

Don't think too hard about any part of that movie, hurcheon.

Chalfant03 Mar 2010 2:15 p.m. PST

One of the Harold Coyle novels (Trial by Fire) had the premise of a limited US/Mexico war sparked by cross border crime (heavily inflamed by the drug cartels)…. perhaps a semi-plausible scenario also?

Use QRF West Germans for earlier Mexicans with G3 rifles, or QRF Modern Germans for the ultra-modern types with G36.

Cacique Caribe04 Mar 2010 9:05 a.m. PST

Wow. I've been to the QRF site several times, but I guess I never checked out those Modern Germans:

They look awesome!

Every soldier, softskin, AFV, and helo in Ft. Hood, let alone the TXANG will be rushing south. Then there's all the forces in places like Ft. Sill, and all the airpower that can be found in Texas and the Southwest.
They will be in Zacatecas in a week, Mexico City within three.

Y'all need to knock off all this "Ice Age" talk, you're gonna make AlGore cry…and he's already had a bad winter this year.

Cacique Caribe04 Mar 2010 9:20 a.m. PST

Artraccoon,

Hmm. That sounds realistic, if it were solely a military action under normal circumstances.

However, do you think that escorting and supplying (off the land) a massive civilian population in a migration, would change the speed and effectiveness of the push?

Furthermore, if the freezing were to happen in a flash, like in the film, there would be very little time to grab lots of fuel and stockpiles for machinery and vehicles, right? That has got to hinder rapid movement too.

Dan,

Did you catch the West German figures as well? They're in the Post War range:

Weapons options for these guys are G3, MG3, Uzi, Panzerfaust 44 and Armbrust. I've got some of these and they're lovely. I did a little review here about a month ago:

For vehicles, the choice is a little limited. You can get Hummers, MUTTs, V150 Commandos and AMX-VCIs, but the more modern stuff, such as ERC-90 armoured cars (and the APC variants), VBL scout cars and the tracked German-Mexican MICV (whose name escapes me) are rather more difficult/impossible to find in 15mm (though you can get an AMX-10RC, which is fairly close(ish) in appearance to the ERC-90).

It's hard to take a report or map seriously, when they can't tell the difference between the words "affect" and "effect":

I do like this map though:
