Having noticed the QRF sale announcement on the TMP main page, I thought I'd have a browse of the QRF site to see what to spend my Christmas money
I was very surprised to discover that they've sneaked out West Germans armed with G3s and other Cold War kit! They look bloody good on the website and I can't wait to get my hands on them (once the sale starts
) Cheers Geoff! :o) |

You said they were in the pipeline, if I recall correctly, but there wasn't a release notice, unless I missed it. Glad to see they are now available. |

Speaking of West Germans, what happened to the Leopard IIs? Are they discontinued? Or is it a web glitch? |
GeoffQRF | 04 Jan 2010 4:04 p.m. PST |
No, just offline at the moment as being remoulded – well, I say remoulded, actually a vastly improved new master, with the 2A5 and 2A6 turrets to follow. The Leopard 1s have been moved back to postwar to accompany the new postwar infantry. |

Hi Geoff, No you didn't! You mentioned they were on the way, but then sneaked them out when nobody was looking! ;) Of course, they'll also be useful for dozens of other nations as well (including Iran, to answer the above question) and they're probably the most useful figures you could possibly produce. Have you got any plans for Leopard 1A1/1A2 or the up-armoured and improved 1A5? How about Kanonenjagdpanzer? You'd get double the use out of the Kanonenjagdpanzer, as they used them as artillery OP vehicles throughout the 1980s with the guns removed and the hole simply blanked off. |

Ah, that will teach you to pay closer attention and check all the pages regularly. The modern US are currently off too, pending the release of the new figures. The Leopard 2 is back on, 2A5 and 2A6 to follow. Modifications for the Leo 1 are apparently in progress. I'll have to look closer at the Kanone, as our Jaguars are all fitted with the add-on applique, I think. |

The trouble is that the 'What's new for January' window on the website doesn't actually show them until you actually open the Post-War Germany page. Most other new stuff normally appears on the front page for the Postwar or Modern section. The Mastiff was another one that sneaked in under the radar. Re the Kanone – yeah, the Jaguars have applique armour, sadly. However, you've already got the basic Schuetzenpanzer-Lang chassis, which was the basis for the KanonenJgPz. You could also then have the RaketenJgPz (SS11) and BeobPz without too much more modelling. Those would essentially then, 'complete the set' as far as West Germany goes. |

It's worth mentioning that the Belgians used KanonenJgPz as well as the West Germans – right up to the 1990s, in fact. Hey, have you taken the TPz Fuchs off the website?! I could have sworn you did those, or was I imagining it? One more West German 'want': The KraKa airborne weapons carrier/quad-bike! I would LOVE a KraKa model – preferably with TOW, Rh-202 20mm and Milan options. Wiesels would be nice as well, but they're somewhat 'late' for my 1980s setting. I imagine thay'd be popular with ultra-modern players though, having been deployed all over the place with German peacekeepers and NATO contingents since the early 90s. |

The trouble is that the 'What's new for January' window on the website doesn't actually show them until you actually open the Post-War Germany page. The problem within the website is a limitation of the software, such that it shows the 'top' level of new items, but not those within deeper folders. Most other new stuff normally appears on the front page for the Postwar or Modern section. The Mastiff was another one that sneaked in under the radar. The main page only shows the last 9 items added, so if we then add a few other bits they get 'knocked off' Hey, have you taken the TPz Fuchs off the website? Oh
bother. Where has that gone? |

Geoffn what will be included in the new US infantry stuff? Arrigo |
GeoffQRF | 05 Jan 2010 10:01 a.m. PST |
Currently, new figures with helmets and armed with M4 (with ACOGs and PEQ), M203, M249, M240, Javelin
Then will follow the same with caps, then some variations with M16. I think it works out about 40 different packs in total. |

Great stuff! Will you be revamping the Postwar US Infantry to include figures more suitable for Germany than Vietnam? And how about 1980s Canadians
? |
GeoffQRF | 05 Jan 2010 11:16 a.m. PST |
Yes, and yes, but more likely the other way round, and probably just after the modern Chinese (unless your game comes first) |

Well the game is planned for Bovvy in July
Just a basic command pack and a couple of rifleman packs would be enough to do the game (and that Lynx that Martin keeps promising!). ;o) |

Why doesn't the post count go up on this thread
? |

As it happens, I've already turned your Israeli TOW crews into Canadians, so no rush there! |

I've just received my West Germans – I've got at least one pack of everything apart from the snipers, plus some Milans from the newish ultra-modern German range. First impressions are very good indeed – these are the best QRF infantry I've seen to date and it's great to see Geoff's modelling skills developing. Not so long ago I would not have touched QRF infantry with a barge-pole, but his work just keeps getting better and better. The figures are stylistically a little on the 'dumpy' side, but in that, they're very similar to FoW and many other ranges. The weapons are very distinct and crisp – the standard rifle is very obviously a G3 and the MG3s and antitank weapons are very nicely done. The Uzi is rather small though – it's a small weapon, but not really THAT small. Some of the poses are a little wooden – particularly the riflemen and antitank gunners firing, but the more animated poses are very nice indeed – the three riflemen advancing poses are very nice indeed, as is the running Panzerfaust 44 gunner The soldier running with rifle in hands and Armbrust LAW slung is an absolute joy! There are three command figure poses – two are your typical pointing/waving types and pretty good. The third is holding a map in one hand an his rifle, held low, in the other – this is a lovely figure. All in all, this a superb range of figures and incredibly useful – they can be painted up as any one of dozens of different armies worldwide, including a number of NATO allies. Thanks Geoff! |
GeoffQRF | 30 Jan 2010 5:08 a.m. PST |
Welcome. Chas prefers the wooden figures, he says my more animated poses may be more creative and accurate, but they are a to mould and cast. :-) Hopefully I will keep improving, so you will see better animation and detail, without resorting to bigger figures! |

which other nato allies would they be suitable for |
Jemima Fawr | 31 Jan 2010 4:52 p.m. PST |
With only minor tweaks (e.g. cutting the warhead off the PzF 44 to make it look more like a Carl-Gustav), you can use these figures for Norwegians, Danes, Turks, Greeks and Portuguese, as well as a host of other forces around the world. |
