the thread on the first one I guess just got to long for everyone to read so here are some of my thoughts for game play Gaming Idea 1: "Fox and the Hounds" pre DC nuke, the "Fox" the terrorist with the suitcase nuke, the hounds your team of specialist to track him down, the GM would leave clues and to whom it may be, hotel receipts credit card transaction, rental cars receipts, etc. your job stop him before he gets to his target area, if he reaches his target area game over! GM controls non players minis, one is the terrorist, more then one team can play, clues only go the team, that ask the right questions at the right locations, to narrow down as to who he is. You can't go around shooting everybody, you shoot the wrong person the terrorist moves straight to the target area, target area is a zone area, once in the zone area game over! Gaming Idea 2: post DC nuke, your team must go in and find the terrorist cell that is protecting the handler, destroy the cell and capture the handler, player can play the cell team, gang banger (paid to help the cell maybe), looters, player can use their own street minis, as to hide the clue as to the terror cell, GM handles all civilian actions people trying to get out of the city, traffic jams, fires, and clues that lead team to the terror cell. Gaming Idea 3, post DC nuke additional terror cell in the area left to disrupt relief efforts your team search and destroy terror cells, protect relief sites. Terror cell objective attack and destroy relief sites and convoys Set victory conditions as needed. ie. if terror cell destroys three out of five convoy trucks. Terrorist wins |

Why is it always Washington DC.. why not L.A. or Salt Lake City or Dallas ???? Because nobody really cares about LA or Dallas, or SLC. They have no international significance, emotional resonance, or special perceived importance. Terrorists generally do things that they think will be "flashy". Unless they have a lot of nukes, they aren't going to waste one on a city that isn't particularly "famous", unless it has some special meaning to their cause. Anti-Mormon Terrorists (if there is any such thing) would certainly target SLC, but pretty much they'd be the only ones. Domestic terrorists might target one of those other cities, but even then it would be unlikely. Overseas terrorists are always going to have NYC and DC at the top of their lists, as they are the first cities anyone thinks of when they think of the US. After those, I suspect they'd go for cities with a big military association – San Diego, Seattle, Norfolk, etc. It's the same reason that if terrorists were going to nuke a city in France, they'd want Paris instead of Marseille, or in the UK, it'd be London instead of Liverpool. -Kle. |

"Wow
as an Angelino I resent that Allen!" Why? Do you know what I'm talking about? "The Turner Diaries" has been a very popular book among the US domestic extremist fringe, including the Oklahoma City bombers. The plot describes a takeover of SoCal by these "patriotic militias", their acquisition of nuclear weapons, and their bombing of NYC and DC. That's why this whole subject sort of turns my stomach. We have American citizens in this country who can actually contemplate such acts (hopefully only as fantasy): OKC on a much larger scale. Allen |

Because nobody really cares about LA or Dallas, or SLC. They have no international significance, emotional resonance, or special perceived importance. a lot of us that live here in the US feel the same way about DC. and would not miss the place at all. |

but NYC would be a better target |

How about a game focused on escaping the DC area if this happens – particularly problematic for folks that live on the southern maryland penisula. I can imagine all kinds of bad real-life scenarios as folks make for the Dahlgren bridge as they try to leave Anacostia and the southern Maryland counties. For that matter, this could also be a good zombie outbreak game – escape from DC. Adding to the mix are all the Navy bases on the penisula trying to protect their assets in the mad rush south. Ahhh, you'd have to add a lot of sensor details. A predator UAV (or a civvie helo marked as the local news channel) can carry detectors sensitive enough to
tell which employees are receiving radiation treatments for whatever conditions, *at regular flight altitudes*. Much less of a game than a lot of people would think. And I would actually miss DC if it got nuked
the entire Mall, with the Smithsonian, gone? *WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!* |

a lot of us that live here in the US feel the same way about DC. and would not miss the place at all. But hopefully those people are not contemplating terrorist attacks on the US, so their opinions don't matter for the purposes of this particular conversation. Right? |

I only ask a few things of the HMGSE BOD and CDs: 1) Run good conventions at decent sites 2) Don't lose money on conventions 3) Make sure they are affordable as possible to the members 4) Be open about the process and provide accounting information in a timely manner to the membership |

Yup – lots of Sailors and gee-whiz Navy stuff on the Maryland peninsula. In DC proper, next to the Washington National's ball-park is the Washington Navy Yard, to the north is NSWC Carderock, to the east the Naval Academy and once across the Anacostia is NRL, and as we head south NSWC Indian Head, south-east NAS Pax River, and for the piece de resistance – NSWC Dahlgren sprawling right at the foot of the bridge on the Virginia side. Of course with Quantico, just north of Dahlgren, there would be plenty of Marines at the foot of that bridge. Google for maps locations of Naval Surface Warfare Centers or Naval Air Stations in the Washington area to get a lay of the land. Lost Pict P.S. I personally think a Zombie horde headed down Crane Highway or Indian Head highway is a lot more fun to game than a nuke strike since I work in ground zero ;-) |

a lot of us that live here in the US feel the same way about DC. and would not miss the place at all. Sure, lots of us don't like the politicians. That doesn't keep DC from being symbolic of the US as a whole, not only overseas, but here at home. Besides, the museums there are extremely valuable. a lot of us that live here in the US feel the same way about DC and would not miss the place at all. . . but NYC would be a better target Do you feel the same about Providence, Rhode Island?
That wasn't me actually, but yeah – the US wouldn't really even notice of Providence got nuked, much less the rest of the world. I expect the most common reaction would be "Really? Where's that?". It wouldn't be good for my personal health, of course – but then I have friends in DC and NYC, too. I'm not promoting nuking any US cities – I'm just pointing out that people who would like to do such things are more likely to pick certain targets than others. -Kle. |

I like how everyone is so eager to wipe the city I live and work in off the face of the earth without a bat of an eye. Actually if I were a terrorist leader I've already hit DC and NYC for my next trick I'd use a small nuke to vaporize BoogerHoller small town America. Take it to the heartland so that nobody felt safe anywhere. Oh and so the W left coast wasn't left out I'd knock down the space needle thingy. Terrorism is all about spreading terror. |
