This article is pretty old.

Good photos though; I'd not seen the left side of the turret, with both balkenkreuz and patriotic Soviet slogan still in place….

Looking forward to its debut on "Tank Overhaul" (this is a wish)

I hadn't seen the balkenkreuz in prior photos either.

This article is pretty old.

Nobody posted it on TMP that i could find so i did! And 2008 is not that old! grin

The slogan is in Estonian and most likely is not a patriotic Soviet saying. Probably attached to the 20th Grenadier Division der Waffen SS (Estonian).

It has been posted here a number of times, but it's a fascinating article and it never hurts to repost things like this. Thanks!

I agree with Nazrat, it's like watching a movie you have seen before, but really like.

'This article is pretty old.'

Then don't look at it or comment on it, find something else to do with the seconds you've lost.

I for one haven't seen it before so appreciate the post, thanks.

Exactly, BT!

Now of course the original article was posted back in 2006 so would that make it now "68 Year Old Tank found in a lake" :P . Robert

Or when it was pulled out in 2000,

Russian Tank Recovered from the Lake After 50 Years Been There

WW-II Trophy tank

14 September 2000, a Komatsu D375A-2 pulled an abandoned tank from its archival tomb under the bottom of a lake near Johvi, Estonia. The Soviet-built T34/76A tank had been resting at the bottom of the lake for 56 years. According to its specifications, it's a 27-tonne machine with a top speed of 53km/h.

While not as impressive, something a little older.

And a bit more impressive- I think I posted this here before.
I think they were able to flush tranny and drive it away on its own power!!! Ammo still had ink quality markings on it…

No link, but there is a private museum out side of Daugavpils, Latvia that has a JS-II that was pulled out of a Latvian bog. It and the 15 or so other Soviet and Nazi vehicles have been restored to factory-fresh conditions and are all fully operable.

It is a way-cool place and they let you climb into the tanks. Entry fee is 5 Lats or $10.00 USD

There is Thread too from a few years ago. Robert

Aercdr,
Thanks for the heads up about the museum in Latvia.
Do you have ny information on how one could find this museum; it's name, street address, anything?

sergeis09 Feb 2010 6:06 p.m. PST

It is in village of Sventa- outside Daugavpils. Owner Edward Zavadsky is planning to build tankodrome since all tanks are operational.
