Just passing this along from a post at the AGNM Yahoo group: "They just pulled a Stug III out of a bog in Demyansk, Russia intact – with numbers and crosses and winter paint scheme still intact!!!" It looks like it actually may have been a few years ago, but still interesting pictures: link |

Always good to see a piece of history recovered from oblivion. Looks in great shape. Now if we could get a museum in the States to pony up some cash to have it shipped over. |

Where was this found! Its amazing to see the original color scheme intact. Especially how light the sand color is. |

Is that not whitewash over dark yellow? A common winter practice. |

Interesting that it has those track extension thingies to make the track wider for running on soft ground. Apparently they didn't work here! :) It's in incredible shape for being buried for 60 years. |

Heck, even the tires seem pretty well preserved. I've got dibs on the Panther A, Tiger I, King Tiger, and Jagdtiger in the bogs of Europe. |

So, where are the crew? Did they escape, or are they Bog Mummies? SMc. |

A bog, being oxygen poor, is probably a good place at preserving something. Hence the Bog Mummies. That's a plretty complete whitewash. The lack of Zimmerit and the amount of whitewash makes me suspect this was from the winter of '43-'44 time period. The bolt-on armor and lack of a cupola armor extension also seem to support this

I wonder if the crewmembers (if they are still alive) are looking at the pics and saying "NOW I remember where we left that thing!"

They have a Stu G III that was pulled out of a bog in Russia at the Patton Museum at Ft. Knox, KY. I was there around five years ago and they had it on display. It had cleaned up nicely and I was told it was probibly going to get some restoritive work done in the future on the inside. |

Very impressive, but they've got the shape of the hull all wrong! AND as we all know numbers were never applied to the side of the Stug3 ;o) |

MetalMutt — Yes, looks out of scale also. Too large to be either 25mm or 28mm. |

Wow that is really neet. I wonder if it still had any live ammunition on it?? |

One remarkable point is that the tank has snow threads. |

Wow, the jagdpanther is exceptional! |

Sadly though this one apparently was left to rot at the depot while it was argued over. The best thing they should have done was leave it there until the jawaching was finished THEN dig it up. |

"Now if we could get a museum in the States to pony up some cash to have it shipped over." I hope not, seen the state of them at Aberdeen proving grounds.. what a waste. |
