I've seen one in green, and it is quite nice. I think it would work. Not a lot of room to walk around and stretch their legs in the craft, but it is bigger than their smaller cars. Perhaps the aliens don't need to do that, since their muscles look rather small, or they enjoy the trip in cold sleep. |

Well, they are apparently 2.75 inches (about 70mm) in diameter. The cockpit section is about 1.25 inches long by .75 inches wide (about 34mm long by 20mm wide). auction auction From the looks of it, it is meant as a one or two-seater, right? picture Dan TMP link |

I just got some GZG greys and I have one of those kicking around if you can wait a few days I'll get a picture up for you. |

I would love to know how to open it up, take out the sound box, paint it all up and then put it back together. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. Dan |

CC, Some sort of a power tool and just drill away any rivets you find below. I took apart several matchbox vehicles like that, removed the paint, repainted them, added lots of different Mad Max style parts and put them together afterward. Replace the rivets by pouring some epoxy glue onto/into the place where the rivet was. So far after several falls and games, the vehicles are still one piece with the occasional chipped paint ;) Here are a few pics of a Matchbox Landrover before and afer conversion

Thanks Piotr. I'll try that and let you guys know how it goes. Dan |

That's a really cool conversion Piotr! |
Pole Bitwy PL | 09 Dec 2009 7:33 a.m. PST |
Thanks Wellspring. You just need to open the Matchbox and remove the transparent plastic windshield. Afterward just cut up pieces of metal mesh and glue them to the sides and roof of the vehicle on the inside. Its important to test fit several times. Also use a good strong glue like epoxy. I also have a van and petrol tanker similarly treated. You can get some of the old matchbox vehicles really cheap and some like the Landrover are available in large quantities second hand dirt cheap

Bandit86, Awesome. If repainted and after having the speaking bit removed, do you think it could make for a cool addition to a UFO invasion game? Dan |
PilGrim | 12 Dec 2009 6:02 a.m. PST |
I used them in my AK47 Alien Colonist \ Settler army as gunships with GZG Phagons making up the infantry. Sadly the toys went on ebay some years ago, but there are some pics on Paul Hoopers web site link Getting the sound box out is a good idea if you are mounting them on any sort of flying base, but a pain |

PilGrim, Love that paint scheme! link Thanks. Dan |

Pilgram, Who makes those walkers you have in the pictures? |
bandit86 | 13 Dec 2009 3:51 a.m. PST |
I think they would work well I dont even think you need to go to the trouble of removing anything. Love to see what you do with it. |

Ok, guys. I'm finally going to paint them. However, if I want the same as this . . . link Do I spray paint the ship black and then add gray and white highlights . . . or do I spray paint metallic gray and then wash it with darker gray or even black? Suggestions? Thanks. Dan |
PilGrim | 24 Jul 2010 5:35 a.m. PST |
IIRC I sprayed black and then gave it a couple of fairly heavy white drybrushings It really was a rush job. If I were to do it again I would be tempted to put some light blue in there as highlights |

Aside from Bandit86 and PilGrim . . .
Has anyone else used theirs yet? Would love to see new examples of use on a gaming table. Dan |

I used them with a 28mm Grey sci-fi skirmish force at least 10 years ago. The grey figure inside the cockpit is closer to 20-28mm than 15mm though. If you painted the cockpit so you couldn't see the grey inside, it'd be fine for many scales. |
