Pat Condray has stated that he is aware that HMGS has paid for some GMs to ship their games to/from conventions.

While this is not necessarily a bad thing, keeping it a secret was wrong. How many big games did not occur because the potential presenter was unaware that financial aid might be available?

I am positive that none of the volunteers who judge games for awards are aware of which games received this financial assistance. I think it reasonable to believe that judges add points for their perception of the cost and effort they think it takes for the GM to present a game.

IMO this unfortunately taints the awards, until the HMGS offers a complete accounting of who received how much and how often.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Have you been a judge at any of the HMGS events?

I'd been asked to judge several times in the past. The judging process was a very informal process of GMs recognizing the better games being run. Prime criteria was visual appeal (you know it when you see it) and happily engaged players(you know it when you see it). 2-3 GMs would come to consensus on the top 10 or so games in a time slot.

The HMGS sponsored GM streamers and recognition chosen by fellow GMs thus has zero relation to HMGS reimbursing a guest GM for travel expenses.

IMO this unfortunately taints the awards, until the HMGS offers a complete accounting of who received how much and how often.

While disclosure would be great, I don't understand your leap in logic saying that guest reimbursement taints a separate process like GM ribbons. ?????

There is no linkage, beyond it being at a HMGS convention.

Condottiere14 Nov 2009 12:23 p.m. PST

Yawn. Maybe a new board is needed for the unending parade of petty complaints?

Topkick89014 Nov 2009 12:29 p.m. PST

Hey PbM any chance you can make just one extremely long post about all the problems you have with HMGS instead of this endless parade of minor whine-isms? Better yet run for their Board on a reformist platform and let the membership decide if you are addressing key issues or just griping.

Goldwyrm14 Nov 2009 12:29 p.m. PST

Maybe a new board is needed

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. There is the mostly inactive Sabotage Board.

However, I recently claimed it for the purpose of discussing clowns…

There's a joke in here, there, somewhere. grin

Just a question. Does HMGS have a forum board where this stuff could be discussed with the EXACT audience or what?

aecurtis Fezian14 Nov 2009 1:21 p.m. PST

Maybe a special new board is required for people who open a topic they know is going to tick them off, initiated by a poster they know will tick them off, and sure enough, get ticked off--so they can complain to each other in private.

evil grin

Also does anyone at HMGwhiz guys know who you are? No name no location, Mr Secret.

aecurtis Fezian14 Nov 2009 1:22 p.m. PST

Apparently some folks seem to think that a topic with "HMGS" in the title might be about… something else?

Steve Hazuka14 Nov 2009 1:24 p.m. PST

I'm just trying to build up a post count I couldn't care less about this topic. I just like to see myself type.

Luv ya baby!

GarnhamGhast14 Nov 2009 1:27 p.m. PST

To right TTW. Do it 4 teh lulz :)

TTW has like mad posting skilz.

Steve Hazuka14 Nov 2009 1:33 p.m. PST

So to mearly break up the pointless argument should we continue just to discuss how pointless it is or should I give it a rest and leave this thread alone to fester on it's own?

Steve Hazuka14 Nov 2009 1:34 p.m. PST

See I'm bored at work right now and since surfing for anything else is prohibited on the company computer you're all stuck with me.

Sorry I did it again

Steve Hazuka14 Nov 2009 1:37 p.m. PST

"TTW has like mad posting skilz."

When the first list came out of top posters I was actually in the top ten. Then a war broke out and I couldn't post very often. Now since work has a computer and I have 24hours I can make up by chattering away.

Oooops did it again didn't I?

altfritz14 Nov 2009 2:01 p.m. PST

I think the point is that "some" large games (that perhaps win awards) are possibly being subsidized while other (non-subsidized) games might have to scale back to what their presenter can manage – and hence not win.

I could put on a really big game if the HMGS pays for shipping the terrain…

Goldwyrm14 Nov 2009 2:10 p.m. PST

71 is better.

combatpainter Fezian14 Nov 2009 2:54 p.m. PST

Chicken and rice tonight. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…

historygamer14 Nov 2009 2:54 p.m. PST

Paintbynumbers:

Please provide the name of the game and convention where an HMGSE sponsored game won? As a frequent judge, I would like to know. Surely you wouldn't post something if you didn't have some facts to back it up. Looking forward to your reply.

Steve Hazuka14 Nov 2009 3:23 p.m. PST

insert "Jeopardy" theme here.

Did Duke ever win for any of his overhyped extravaganzas? I hope not, but I'd wager Painty can't answer that or any of the other questions about this latest diatribe in his campaign against HMGS. It's all hearsay and innuendo with him…

This… is… TMP!!!

Oh, give it a rest, PBN.
You are shocked, SHOCKED!!!! to learn that Uncle Duke's extravaganzas were subsidized.
That was in 2008. Whoop de do.

Who are you?
Besides making trouble and being an insufferable pain in the ass, what is your agenda?
Did HMGS fail to rescue your mother when the Sand People kidnapped her, young Jedi?

The only thing your deranged diatribes have accomplished is to drive me to sympathize with the HMGS BOD. If you hate them that much, there must be some good in what they do.

Steve Hazuka14 Nov 2009 4:38 p.m. PST

My evil plan is working, soon HMGS topic will rule TMP, (evil laugh) today TMP tommorrow the WORLD!!!

historygamer14 Nov 2009 5:17 p.m. PST

I am still waiting PBN. Please provide the facts you are basing this thread on. (cricket, cricket)

combatpainter Fezian14 Nov 2009 5:18 p.m. PST

Has anyone ever tried worm cheese???

Sundance14 Nov 2009 7:29 p.m. PST

Yes, but if you lick a slug your tongue goes numb…at least according to 10 year olds…

Perhaps there is hope to have this moved to the food board, or not..

I think PBM is just trying to get Pat Condray in trouble with HMGS!

darthfozzywig14 Nov 2009 8:30 p.m. PST

I think you guys are downplaying the magnitude of this crisis. If this is not resolved IMMEDIATELY to the satisfaction of the OP, he will be forced to start other pointless complaints.

And to feed my need for viewing disasters in all forms, I'm going to see 2012 shortly. Pretty sure the HMGS BoD is to blame for the global calamity that ensues.

Feet up now14 Nov 2009 8:32 p.m. PST

In the olden days they used to 'paint by tar and feathers' .

Very messy business but you could see those feathered sand people for miles.

Captain Apathy14 Nov 2009 9:08 p.m. PST

Did HMGS fail to rescue your mother when the Sand People kidnapped her, young Jedi?

Hahahahahahaha!!! I actually shot coffee out my nose.

Honestly, now he is just posting these threads knowing they will get hijacked so he can say…

"SEE!!! They have all been assimilated into the HMGS mindset."

It also helps him justify his self righteous attitude and makes him feel elite compared to us mere mortals who are incapable of discourse.

Captain Apathy14 Nov 2009 9:09 p.m. PST

BTW PBN, in case you think I am stalking you, the only reason I wandered onto this thread is because I read the OFM's post and wondered what the hell he was talking about. Now I know.

Goldwyrm -- I said nothing about travel expenses. Read more carefully.

And I wasn't referring to Seigfried's expenses.

>Please provide the name of the game and convention where an HMGSE sponsored game won?

Sure. Give me the list of games who's shipping was paid for first.

Kelly Armstrong15 Nov 2009 5:39 a.m. PST

I have both lists but I'm not showing them to anyone. Really. Nah nah.

historygamer15 Nov 2009 7:04 a.m. PST

"Sure. Give me the list of games who's shipping was paid for first."

I'm not the one who made this accusation, you were. If you don't have any facts to back you up, how can anyone take you seriously? I suggest before making an accusation, you have some facts in hand first, as it will give your posts more credibility.

nazrat15 Nov 2009 7:38 a.m. PST

"If you don't have any facts to back you up, how can anyone take you seriously?"

Was ANYBODY taking him seriously? How sad if they were…

historygamer15 Nov 2009 8:49 a.m. PST

"Was ANYBODY taking him seriously?"

Good point. He certainly doesn't seem to know what on earth he is taking about, that is for sure.

I Pat Cod15 Nov 2009 9:17 a.m. PST

Just how does one taint anything as meaningless as HMGS GM awards?

iPat

nazrat15 Nov 2009 10:20 a.m. PST

I've won a fair few through the years and they certainly weren't ever meaningless to me! Sure, it's just a (barely) glorified "Attaboy!" award, but it still feels nice to have your hard work recognized by the convention.

Never won one, huh iPat? 8)=
