That way we can isolate the "Should everyone who has ever held office in HMGS-East commit mass sepuku?" topics. No one will ever VOLUNTARILY post there, but Bill can cross-post their useless topics there. Make it an Editorial Decision. "I should have you hanged, mule skinner

Frankly, the majority of posts on the entire site would probably fall into the "petty complaint" portfolio. |

OFM: we both know those who type out petty complaints dont regard them as "petty". In their minds their strange little gripes and concerns are of world-wide importance and significance. I think the only useful function of a Petty Complaints Board would be as a cruel alternative to the DawgHouse. TMP criminals could be sent there to read petty complaint posts until their sentence ended or they went mad. Whatever comes first. |

"
read petty complaint posts until
they went mad." So: sort of a no-time-served symbolic gesture, then, correct
? Isn't there a line in "Dracula" (the movie)
? something like
"Everyone in this place is looney except you and me
and sometimes I've got my doubts about you."

Beg pardon m'lord, but aren't you the one that is always adamantly against new boards? But there are some things that citizens here get their knickers all twisted about. FOW, HMGS, GW, Napoleonics
..come to think of it, is there any subject besides Zardoz and Goth Girls that it doesn't start an argument?

Fercrissakes, 98% of TMP is a petty complaint board: "This game book I've skimmed through for 5 minutes sucks! It doesn't do artillery fire historically accurately!" "I didn't like the smell of the men's room at WobblyCon!" "The price of this game is too high where I live in Bongolesia! I won't touch it at that price!" "I object to the Socialist/Fascist/Nationalist/Communist/Bonapartist tone of that movie!" "I ordered these paints yesterday and they still aren't here, and the guy didn't answer his email, and it's been over an hour!!" "If you move WobblyCon to Sassafrassville, then I won't be able to come!" "I hate The Glory of Glory miniatures rules! I don't care that it's been out of print for 29 years; I just had to say so!" "I hate games with too many pictures! They're just trying to fill it up with fluff so they can take more of my hard-earned simoleans!" "I hate games that don't have enough pictures! They look like my third-grade math textbook from 1962!" |

Perhaps a Poll should be run on sending a thread to the Petty Complaints board? |

I think this is an excellent idea. However there should also be : a moderatly serious complaints board a serious complaints board a matter of life and death board (for GW related topics) a complaints of cosmic significance board. Obviously we'd need to lose the napoleonics boards to make space for these. |

I think the Editor is too busy to go around judging certain topics as "petty", and if I were him, I wouldn't take on the work -- there will always be a group that disagrees, minority (or maybe sometimes a majority), but very vocal. Who needs all those complaints and grief? Doubtless most people think the best way to deal with petty topics is to reply with a message dripping with sarcasm and derision. However, in fact this doesn't work. The original poster probably doesn't get it -- he thinks the original post is worthwhile after all. If he does get the sarcasm, he'll probably take it personally, and feel upset and complain, taking up the Editor's time, and that of anyone else that reads his complaints. So this is third or lower in the hierarchy of best ways to respond to a petty topic. The second best thing to do with a petty topic is to answer it seriously, with helpful information, but with an undertone indicating what about the topic is petty. Or explicit but polite commentary for that matter. The best thing to do of course, is just to ignore the petty topic and don't post in it. That way you save your own time, and that of anyone else who might be checking for new messages and thus end up dipping back into the petty topic again. Darn, well, for this one, I didn't do the best thing, but at least I did the second best thing! |

I propose a 'Taking Things Far Too Seriously' board I reckon it would really take off
