Man, when I was a kid I was kind of obsessed with Pellucidar. Those books were the first non-picture books I'd read all on my own.
I became convinced that the Earth really was hollow and that if I could get rich and build a dirigible I could sail in through the opening at the North Pole (as in Tarzan at the Earth's Core).

I'm embarrassed to say how long this fixation lasted… even now I get a thrill at the mention of Pellucidar.

@Venusboys3: I am right there with you. I recently purchased a used copy of "At The Earth's Core" to read to my daughters, same as my dad did for me They weren't quite as thrilled with it as I had hoped…
