Hello all, my first outing here. As far as I have been able to find out, during the war there was a great dearth of tractors in the S.U. due to the fact that most tractor plants were producing tanks. As a result much of the artillery ie, the 7.62 guns were horse-drawn. I have found it extremely difficult to find Soviet specific limbers and horses in 15mm. I have found that in the WW2 ranges there are not many horse limbers out there. Battlefront used to make one but it looks like they stopped. Since I am looking to give some moblity to some 152mm guns, I would be needing six-horse limbers. Are these available at all? Thanks for your trouble, E-U Ps, I do hope this is the right place for this topic.

True North does Soviet horse limbers. |

In addition to having limbers for artillery where tractors are lacking, the other Red Army practice (necessity, really) in early war (say 41-42)was to have 1-2 tractors for every 3-4 guns. Or fewer tractors. Yep, that means the whole battery/battalion could not displace at one time. This was even the case with horse-drawn artillery, not enough limbers for all guns. |

Battlefront still does limbers as well, don't they? |

The Germans (LW anyway) also had this problem, not enough transport to haul all the guns in one go. |

"Battlefront still does limbers as well, don't they?" Not now. They stopped doing the proper German and Soviet limbers a while back. Then they did the funky generic limber. Now that's gone, along with the wagons. The "explanation" is that the molds wore out. No explanation why they can't make new molds from the masters, or why they can't sculpt new ones. "True North does Soviet horse limbers." It never works when I try to be subtle: TMP link |

Porkchop: I did not know that horses could draw artillery! How do they hold the pen? Do they draw anything else, or are they fixated on guns. Inquiring minds want to know! Rod Robertson. |

As others have said, True North and Quality Castings do Russian artillery limbers in their WW2 ranges. Peter Pig does one in their Russian WW1/RCW range. True North does the FIAT 708 tractor, probably cheapest from Warweb. |

Skeptic: Ah, I see! What he means is horses disembowelling artillery. That seems very mean! Is this a long standing emnity or a new atrocity. Perhaps the horses are getting some pay back for being forced to charge the guns and usually paying a high price. Thanks for the wiktionary reference. That arse Robertson! |
