Looking at the GZG Scandinavian troops made me think that I haven't seen modern versions of them, for late 20th or early 21st century warfare:

Anyone know of any suitable 15mm modern figures for a frozen Apocalypse?

Thanks.

Rebel Minis' Martian rebel figures (sahadeen) are in long cloaks with hoods and some of them have masks over their faces like respirators (or cold weather masks). They'd probably work well for a post-apoc "arctic wasteland" game.

Hmm. Interesting. They do have that scavenger look.

I hadn't thought of using them in that climate:

You could do some very easy conversions of WW2 figs in long coats as well.

Has anyone done any Ice Station Zebra type games, but in 15mm?

If so, what 15mm figures are available out there?

There are 6 on my workbench with M16s…

Cacique Caribe02 Aug 2009 12:52 p.m. PST

Geoff,

Really? Please tell me more.

Are they current troop types or are they Cold War (pardon the pun) figures?

I'm hoping current types.

Cold weather gear, hoods up and down, caps rather than helmets, M16…

GeoffQRF02 Aug 2009 12:58 p.m. PST

By the time they are all padded up, not much to see the difference.

Incidently, just got hold of some Irregular modern US. They stand about a head taller than Peter Pig US Marines (sufficiently so as to look odd togerher) but are definitely 'older period' – I'm actually going to paint them up as early 1980s (pre-Galil Israelis!)

Geoff,

Those are excellent news! Can't thank you enough.

Cool, Geoff! I know I'll find a good use for those!

The long "capes" and hoods on the RM Martian rebels will make them useful in a lot of climates, I think. Desert, of course, as most people instantly think, as well as arctic – I'm painting mine up for a temperate region and the cloaks and hoods will look like camouflage smocks (I'll be using them as guerrilla/resistance fighters who operate out of a wooded/hilly region on our SF colony world, Glory.

I haven't got them into mould yet! ;-)

Cacique Caribe02 Aug 2009 1:17 p.m. PST

But you are headed in the right direction, sir!

The Tavor's pretty nifty, alright – and another weapon that makes a figure line useful both for moderns and SF. Any of the forces using bullpups will look perfectly natural in a SF setting, especially if you're careful to paint their uniforms a little differently than their RL counterparts.

Cacique Caribe04 Aug 2009 8:02 p.m. PST

Variant paint schemes are in the plans.

Even so, figure variety is conducive to realism.

After looking at Whiffwaff's latest 28mm "Snowtroopers" ( TMP link ), it made me wonder . . .

Are there any new developments in this area, but for 15mm regular troops or resistance fighters?

…Chas has the little devils, arcticy jackets, light belt order and M16s… now if I can just get him to mould them…

Thanks!

For 15mm civilians in "winter gear" (jackets, sweaters and coats):

They would need a little converting of weapons, I think.

If it comes to fruition, here's another option:

@Dan, I eventually plan to have 4 winter troops added to the Eureka line of Modern Russians/ Chechens that could represent either nation.
