I have recently started using 1/600 aircraft for air combat games. The idea to use clear legos as flight stands sounded perfect: TMP link I want to glue rare-earth magnets onto the round bricks, but I don't want to use superglue as it will frost the clear brick. Also, I know not all glues work well on various plastics. Any suggestions for a glue that will work on the type of plastic that clear legos are made and will dry clear? Thanks Chris |

There is a glue sold at most comprehensive hobby shops for clear plastic canopies. It dries clear and without crazing the canopies. It works on polystyrene models. Since Legos are probably ABS, it should work. I would not be too confident in the strength of the bond, though. However, if you are just sinking a magnet in a hole, that should not be a problem. |

Maybe you can use clear silicone RTV as adhesive? I use it for making water on bases. |

Testors makes a glue specifically for gluing clear canopies to cockpits. I think this is what John the OFM is talking about. I've used it on a number of models, including non-polystyrene and it works good. I've used it to bond the vacuformed plastic bubble helmets on my Blue Moon Manufacturing spacemen figures. It's similar to white PVA cement but dries crystal clear. Like John says, don't be too confident about it's bond strength. |

Glue the magnet to your plane. Get a steel thumbtack for the magnet to stick to. drill a small hole in the lego and insert the thumbtack. With the pin you should be able to get by with the canopy cement. |

I've used 5 minute epoxy to repair my glasses (since I'm a cheap git) for years. It is a bit of a chore to mix up a batch and it stinks while you work with it but a quite small amount can be used to make a rock hard bond. |

Thanks for all the advice. The rare-earth magnet just fits into the hole that is at the center of the peg. I think the Testors canopy glue should work. |

Where did you get your magnets from cfielitz, since they are such a good fit? |

Would the brick frost if you hold it upside down when gluing? And keep that way until dry? By holding a nail inside the upturned brick the magnet should stay in place in the meantime. By the way, what is the diameter of the hole inj the centre of these rounded bricks? As you can tell, I am keen on this idea, and since i havent started on collecting aircraft yet, i am keen to get this idea right from the start (if it works) |

The silence is deafening! Anyway, i've had my clear lego through. The Antenociti web store(here in the UK) do a cockpit canopy glue called Pacer canopy glue, as well as one called Poly Zap, but the former is specifically marketed as avoiding crazing of clear plastic, so I'll probably give it a try. |
